Brad Paisley was “Crushin’ It” last week at the iHeartRadio Theater in NYC. Sporting his signature cowboy hat, Paisley performed an intimate, acoustic set for the small crowd –just him and his guitar. Bobby Bones hosted the event, providing plenty of comedic relief throughout the evening.
Paisley kicked the night off with “Country Nation,” from his brand new album, “Moonshine in the Trunk.” Other songs off of his new album included current single, “River Bank,” “Perfect Storm,” “Shattered Glass,” and “Crushin’ It.” Paisley recorded many of his new songs in his at home studio, complete with a sports bar and a variety of beers on tap including Kentucky Bourbon ale.
While making the album, Paisley was determined to stay in front of the problem he had with his previous album, “Wheelhouse,” in which some of his songs were leaked.
“It’s this digital world that we live in and last time when I released ‘Wheel House’ we had a couple of songs on there that were edgy and pushed the envelope, one in particular made the news right after it was leaked because somebody made a really bad YouTube video that kind of didn’t depict it right,” said Paisley. “And I thought, ‘This time I’m not going to let that happen. I’m leaking this myself.’”
Being the outside of the box thinker that he is, Paisley relied on some of his special friends to help leak the music.
“I felt like I wanted to be creative and let the fans hear it with each song the way I envisioned it,” said Paisley. “‘Moonshine in the Trunk,’ Jeff Gordan did that leak for me; Ellen did ‘Shattered Glass’ for me; NASA helped me with a song called ‘Flag on the Moon.’”
Fans were also treated to some of Paisley’s hits from over the years including “Mud on the Tires,” “She’s Everything to Me,” a special medley of “Celebrity,” “Waiting on a Woman,” and “Me Neither,” sending the crowd into a frenzy of excitement. He closed the show with “Alcohol,” but not before letting the crowd know what the meaning behind the name of his new album meant.
“To me, ‘Moonshine in the Trunk’ signifies that American thing –muscle cars designed to transport illegal alcohol,” said Paisley.
How could anyone not love a guy who loves his woman, loves his country, and gives his fans amazing music album after album?!
