Meet New & Noteworthy artist J. Michael Harter.

J. Michael Harter released his new EP, Ride On, on Sept. 30 on Anozira Records/GMV Nashville. The release follows Harter’s launch of his current single, titled “Holy Cowgirl,” which is receiving positive feedback and airplay at Country radio and in dance venues across the United States.

The album, which is produced by J. Michael’s brother, Scott Harter, and Matt McClure is available on iTunes and other major digital retailers. Harter commented that Ride On contains some of the most special and refreshing music he’s ever written, including bonus tracks “Another Trip,” and a dance remix to single “Holy Cowgirl.” He is currently in the midst of an extended radio tour in support of the single and album.

Current Single / Project: My current single is “Holy Cowgirl”, and my EP “Ride On” is available NOW!

Musical Influences: George Strait, Garth Brooks, the Eagles, The Beatles, Sting, Tom Petty, Incubus, Keith Whitley, Chris Ledoux

Personal Influences: My family past and present, God, nature/the outdoors.

Music Sounds Like: Well, I guess you could say its Western Rock with with real life stories and emotional lyrics. At least that’s what I think. I hear a lot of different comparisons. One time someone told me it’s like Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton had a kid.

Why You Should Be Listening: I think the most exciting thing about my music right now is that we have no rules in the studio. Nobody is voicing their opinion but me and my brother. It makes for a “rule free” creative environment. As a result we are able to create unique music and try new things.

J. Michael Harter is set to release his new EP, Ride On, on Sept. 30 on Anozira Records/GMV Nashville. The release follows Harter’s launch of his current single, titled “Holy Cowgirl,” which is receiving positive feedback and airplay at Country radio and in dance venues across the United States.

The album, which is produced by J. Michael’s brother, Scott Harter, and Matt McClure will be available on iTunes and other major digital retailers. Harter commented that Ride On contains some of the most special and refreshing music he’s ever written, including bonus tracks “Another Trip,” and a dance remix to single “Holy Cowgirl.” He is currently in the midst of an extended radio tour in support of the single and album.

Harter, a former member of brother-sister trio, The Harters, commented on the development of the EP,

“For the past three years I have attended the Bristol Bay Nashville Songwriters Retreat in Alaska. In fact, several of the songs on the EP were written on these retreats. Myself, my brother Scott, Earl Bud Lee (“Friends in Low Places,” “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking”), Bruce Wallace, and Scott Laurent are the writers that make up what we call ‘The Fighting Chums.’ Chum Salmon is among the several species of fish we catch on the trip. Our track “The Only One” was the starting point for this whole project, and it was the first song ‘The Fighting Chums’ wrote in Alaska. Bruce Wallace started strumming his Gibson acoustic then my brother and I joined in. Before I could say, “damn that’s kind of cool,” Scott Laurent and Bud Lee were already spitting out lyrics. It turned out to be a killer power ballad that I had to record!”

A Tempe, Ariz. native, Harter’s music blends up-beat Country melodies with profound lyrics and a unique Western flair.

Of the new music, Harter says,

“I am striving to be part of the pendulum swinging the other way to lyrically driven songs that would make you cry, laugh, or make you remember something that touches your heart.”

CMA Fan Social

On Saturday, CMT presented the CMA Fan Social at the Wildhorse Saloon. A melting-pot of performers took the stage to entertain for the free concert including The Harters, The Civil Wars, Thompson Square, Joe Nichols, Kristen Chenoweth and Little Big Town.

Unfortunately, it ran very late so we had to miss Little Big Town. The highlight of the night….When Joe Nichols performed “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” a woman from the 2nd floor started throwing down pieces of her clothing including a bra and socks. It was HYSTERICAL…Joe signed the over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder and tried to throw it back to her…Well, it didn’t make it, and another woman snatched it up. Don’t ask me why she’d want another woman’s brazier.

You can see all of our pictures from the event here.
