Songs for Sound, a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for the 360 million people worldwide suffering from hearing loss, kicks off its 12-week nationwide Hearoes Tour on Aug. 15 & 16 at the Chicago Air & Water Show.

The Hearoes Tour is a planned mobile campaign with a sponsor-branded screening vehicle which will travel around the country visiting air shows, retail, schools and clinics totaling over 60 stops and reaching over 5 million people to help raise awareness around hearing health and prevention among Veterans and their families. Attendees will receive free auditory screenings, equipment demos and other information and giveaways.

Supporting the awareness campaign, stage, film, television and Country music star Laura Bell Bundy will perform at major air shows across the U.S. while Country singer and television personality Jessie James Decker closes out the Hearoes Tour inaugural run at the Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show in Pensacola on Nov. 7.

“I am proud to support Songs for Sound and the Hearoes Tour,” said Bundy. “This campaign will help restore hearing for Veterans and children all across the country so they too can enjoy the sweet sound of music.”

The Hearoes Tour is sponsored by Cochlear America, a global provider of hearing implantable technologies such as cochlear implants, and Phonak, a global provider of hearing technologies such as hearing aids.

Hearoes Tour stops with free hearing screenings include:

  • Aug. 15-16 – CHICAGO AIR & WATER SHOW (Chicago, IL)
Laura Bell Bundy performs National Anthem
  • Aug. 22-23 – KANSAS CITY AIR SHOW (Kansas City, MO)
Laura Bell Bundy concert performance on Aug. 22
  • Aug. 28-Sept. 3 – AMERICAN LEGION NATIONAL CONVENTION (Baltimore, MD)
  • Sept. 18-19 – JOINT BASE ANDREWS AIR SHOW (JB Andrews, MD)
Laura Bell Bundy concert performance on Sept. 19
  • Oct. 24-25 – SEA & SKY SPECTACULAR (Jacksonville, FL)
  • Oct. 31-Nov. 1 – GREAT GEORGIA AIR SHOW (Peach Tree City, GA)
Laura Bell Bundy concert performance on Oct. 31
  • Nov. 7-8 – BLUE ANGELS HOMECOMING AIR SHOW (Pensacola, FL)
Jessie James Decker concert performance on Nov. 7

Additional high-profile songwriters and performers will be announced for Hearoes Tour stops in clinics, schools, retail centers and intimate donor-focused events.

“Most people probably don’t know that hearing loss/ear disease is the number one disability reported among troops returning from overseas, yet most can be prevented or treated,” said Jaime Vernon, Songs for Sound founder. “Due to lack of awareness and access, only five percent of those able to benefit from a cochlear implant are being treated and less than 10 percent of the hearing aids needed globally are being produced. This is why we’re thrilled to be able to combine mobile health screenings and music to shed light on these important issues and help support and educate veterans, their families and the public through our Hearoes Tour.”

Laura Bell Bundy Grants Wish for Teen with Severe Epilepsy

Laura Bell Bundy

Country star Laura Bell Bundy has always been an inspiration to 14-year-old Katie Vallance. Despite dealing with a life-threatening illness, the Kentucky teen dreams of becoming just like her idol and believes that if Bundy can make it, maybe she can too. Now, after meeting Bundy thanks to children’s charity Kids Wish Network, Katie has renewed hope that dreams really do come true.

“Laura Bell was incredible and Katie is a bigger fan now than before,” says her mom Januarie Vallance. “She couldn’t stop smiling or talking about it. Laura is from Kentucky too, so Katie thinks that maybe she can be just like her one day.”

After years of struggling with severe epilepsy, Katie’s wish trip came at just the right time to restore her hope for the future.

Diagnosed with epilepsy in 2009, Katie tried medication after medication to control her seizures, but nothing seemed to work. After suffering a grand mal seizure, doctors upped Katie’s diagnosis to intractable epilepsy, and by 2012, she was suffering from over 100 seizures a day. Doctors implanted a pacemaker-like device to utilize vagus nerve stimulation, a technique that generates pulses of electricity at regular intervals. Since then, Katie dropped to having only a few seizures per week, a vast improvement in her quality of life.

As a result of her frequent seizures, Katie suffers from some short-term memory loss, but she doesn’t let that stop her from enjoying life. The compassionate and caring teen felt right at home when Kids Wish Network granted her wish to visit Nashville. Her wish trip was packed full of authentic “country” activities and a meet-and-greet with Bundy. Katie also got to spend time with rising country star Noah Marler Garner.

First, was the experience Katie’s been waiting for, the meet-and-greet with Bundy. The pair met at a local café and bonded over shared experiences while discussing country music. Laura posed for photos and wrote Katie a personal note.

“It was so wonderful to meet Katie and hear about her life and journey,” said Bundy of the experience. “She’s a very bright and spirited young lady, and I have a feeling she could accomplish whatever she sets her mind on in life.”

After that exciting day, Katie was able to tour a few sights around Nashville and was surprised at dinner by Garner. She and Noah started a fast friendship that continued the next day when Noah took her to get “real” cowboy boots and spent the afternoon touring the city.

“Noah made my trip so, so very, very special,” Katie gushed.

Noah was especially moved by taking part in Katie’s wish experience.

“Working with Kids Wish Network to help grant Katie’s wish is truly one of the best feelings I’ve ever had,” Noah said. “I think I’m the blessed one to be able to meet heroes like her. I want to do the best I can to bring happiness to the lives of more kids facing life-threatening illnesses.”

For Katie, this was the trip of a lifetime and one she’ll never forget. Katie and her family also enjoyed luxury accommodations, fun-filled dinners and other Nashville-area activities during her wish.

“Katie had an amazing and memorable time,” says her mom, Januarie Vallance.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following sponsors that helped make Katie’s Nashville wish a once-in-a-lifetime experience: Laura Bell Bundy, Noah Marler Garner, Sheraton Music City Hotel, Wildhorse Saloon, Nashville Zoo, Jack’s BBQ, Pinewood Social, Nashville Shores Water park, Old Hickory Grill, Back Yard Burgers, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Kids Wish Network is a national charitable organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children having experienced life-altering situations.
