Katie Armiger Opens Up About Rift with Record Label

Katy Armiger

Country music singer/songwriter, Katie Armiger has broken her silence about the ongoing rift with her former record label.

“I never quit country music. I haven’t spoken because I wasn’t able to,” the Texas native says. “My label filed suit against me, but I kept hoping for an amicable solution. Now, everyone can see my response. The answer I filed with the federal court speaks for itself.”

Armiger released four albums, charted seven singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, made national TV appearances, toured internationally, and saw her videos repeatedly voted by fans onto the GAC “Top 20 Countdown.” In mid-2015, the Texas native spoke enthusiastically about a forthcoming fifth album and a songwriting competition for female writers.

Then, in what has been called one of the most curious events in recent country music history, Pete O’Heeron, the President of Cold River Records asserted that the young star had “decided to take a breather” from music. The label continued to release similar statements on Katie’s behalf through her social media accounts. She quickly disputed the announcement on Instagram, and also noted that she no longer had control of her Facebook and Twitter accounts.

“I’ve worked hard and I’m proud of what I’ve done musically and personally,” Armiger says. “My label had expectations for how I should behave to get ahead, particularly how I should interact with influential men in the industry. I just wasn’t willing to take that approach. I wanted to make it with integrity and I still do. I know that there are good people in this business and particularly in country radio, and I’m so grateful to those who support my career and play my music.”

Armiger’s experience is not unique.

Just this month, the Los Angeles Times reported on the resignation of music publicist Heathcliff Berru from his company, Life or Death PR, in the wake of widespread allegations of sexual harassment.

In 2013, British songstress Charlotte Church was quoted as saying that the music industry demoralizes women. More recently, superstar Taylor Swift filed a lawsuit in the fall of 2015 against a Denver radio host whom she accused of groping her while posing for a photo. Swift has requested a jury trial, and says any money she might receive as a result of the lawsuit will be donated to charities that are “dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard.”

In 1991, the Los Angeles Times published an in-depth article about sexual harassment in the music industry. The subject was also the focus of a segment on ABC Television’s Prime Time Live, and Billboard Magazine published an article that included interviews with female and male record industry executives about the prevalence of sexual harassment in the industry. In May of 2015, Keith Hill made waves across the music industry by asserting that if you want to make ratings, take females out. The challenges against female recording artists are well documented.

“I didn’t think I should have to do the things my label wanted me to do to ‘make it’,” Armiger says. “It should be about the music.”

Armiger previously announced that she’ll be part of the It’s A Girl Thing Tour this year along with Jamie O’Neal, Hannah Blaylock and country newcomer Andrea Pearson.

“I’m eager to share some new music very soon,” Armiger says. “I love country music. This is where I want to be.”

“It’s A Girl Thing” Hits the Road with Jamie O’Neal, Katie Armiger, Hannah Blaylock and More!

It's a Girls Thing

Country Music fans will delight in the news that several of their favorite female artists have joined together for an exciting new tour. Katie Armiger, Hannah Blaylock and Jamie O’Neal have welcomed newcomer Andrea Pearson for It’s A Girl Thing, an all-girl, music-filled evening of hits and fan favorites. It may well be the female country music tour of a lifetime with hit-makers, rising stars, and even occasional special guests.

Hitting the scene with her first album in 2000, Jamie O’Neal came out swinging with back to back number one singles “There Is No Arizona” and “When I Think About Angels.” Her freshman album went gold and set her up for success and many supportive fans. She quickly became a country role model for other females aspiring to enter the country genre. Now, with three albums under her belt, Jamie remains a force in Country music, and will take on the role of host for the It’s A Girl Thing concert tour.

Katie Armiger jumped into the Nashville country music scene at the young age of 14. She has charted 5 Billboard singles, 4 additional singles on Billboard’s Country Airplay Charts, and her 2013 album hit #7 on the Billboard US Country Chart. It’s true … despite rumblings to the contrary, Katie has never put down her microphone or her gifted songwriting pen. Known for songs like “Better in a Black Dress,” “Scream,” “Best Song Ever,” and “Kiss Me Now,” the Texas born songstress has announced new dates for 2016 including the It’s A Girl Thing Tour.

Former lead singer of Edens Edge, Hannah Blaylock is known for hits such as “Amen” and “Too Good To Be True” while at Big Machine Records. Having toured with Reba, Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum, and many other incredible artists, Hannah is not new to the country scene. She’s ready to run solo and is currently working on her debut album.

A brilliant singer/songwriter and captivating performer, Andrea Pearson came to Nashville from British Columbia, Canada with country on her side. She’s had an advantage in playing alongside some of country music’s biggest stars — Vince Gill, Wynonna, Brooks & Dunn, and Tanya Tucker. She’s also performed at the Canadian Country Music Awards and recently made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry. Big things to come from Andrea including a brand new album in early 2016 and the It’s A Girl Thing tour.

While each solo singer and songstress is dynamite, these four women of country  combined will bring a performance beyond words to the table. Peppered with respected hits and new material, It’s A Girl Thing is a veritable festival of today’s female country music trendsetters.

The group will be joined on several dates by Pierce Avenue, the husband and wife duo featuring singer, Jaime Pierce (who performed formerly as Jayme Lynn Scott) with husband, Tony Pierce, who has played lead guitar in the Dustin Lynch Band.

Katie Armiger Launches “Girls With Dreams” Contest

Katie Armiger

Country sensation Katie Armiger is launching “Girls With Dreams,” a national songwriting competition that gives young songwriters the chance to win a $10,000 college scholarship and have their music recorded with Armiger.  The winner will be flown to Nashville to record their song with Katie and two-time Grammy-winning producer Chad Carlson (Taylor Swift). For contest rules and information, please go to

“My entire career started by winning a contest,” says Katie, “And now I’d like to give other young ladies an opportunity like the one I had.”

Katie, who Country Weekly magazine recently named one of the 10 most beautiful women in country music, began her career as a 14-year-old girl with dreams of going to Nashville. At age 15, she completed her first album and set her sights on becoming a national singer/songwriter. Along the way, she found role models and mentors who inspired her to chase her dreams. Katie has become one of the brightest new stars in Nashville and has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in country music. Now Katie wants to give back to girls with big dreams and big talent through a national songwriting competition: Girls With Dreams.

Katie made history by becoming the only indie female country artist to chart in the top 10 on both Billboard and iTunes. Her most recent album, Fall Into Me, debuted at No. 6 on the Indie Albums Chart, No. 7 on Billboard’s Country Albums Chart and No. 32 on the Billboard 200.  Fall Into Me became her highest-charting album to date. Armiger wrote or co-wrote every track on the album. In addition, she committed all of last year to honoring our nation’s first responders with her “Project Feel Safe” campaign.

Armiger recently teamed with Yahoo! for the premiere of her newest video, “One Night Between Friends.” The video can be seen HERE. The “One Night Between Friends” video was shot in Los Angeles and directed by Justin Baldoni. Baldoni, one of the stars of the new CW show, “Jane the Virgin,”  also helmed the video for Katie’s single “Safe,” which shot to No. 1 on the Top 20 Country Countdown Chart. Its stunning video–a tribute to our nation’s first responders–amassed more than two million YouTube views.

Over the course of the past few years, Katie’s shared stages with some of country music’s biggest artists, including Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town, Eli Young Band, Darius Rucker, Josh Turner, Rodney Atkins and Kellie Pickler, to name a few.

Katie Armiger Returns with “One Night Between Friends”

Katie Armiger returns with “One Night Between Friends” a follow up to “Safe” which hit No 1 on the Top 20 Countdown Chart hit earlier this year. The music video flirts with the fantasy of a  romance developing between two close friends. It’s a situation we have all been in, unfortunately I don’t think it always works out as well as it does for the couple in Katie’s video.

Justin Baldoni directed “One Night Between Friends” and “Safe”.  He has made viral videos for Soul Pancake and and is a lead actor in Jane the Virgin on The CW. Brett Dier, a costar on Jane the Virgin plays the role of Boyfriend opposite his real-life girlfriend Haley Lu Richardson. The two acted opposite each other on the ABC Family show Ravenwood.
