Joshua Scott Jones Prepares to Release ‘The Healing’

joshua scott jones

Joshua Scott Jones, best known as one half of the country duo Steel Magnolia, will release his debut solo album, The Healing, on Tuesday, June 3rd,. The 11-track release is a collection of songs candidly retelling the singer’s personal and emotional journey over the last couple of years.

Jones co-wrote and executively produced every song on the album. Each track exposes the raw emotions he experienced since he started working on his solo material last year.

“This has been a long time coming for me,” he said. “I feel like it’s really a chance for my voice to be heard.”

The Healing kicks off with the catchy male anthem, “Honk (If You’re Tonky),” a fun introduction for the tracks that follow including the groove-infused “Tennessee Blue,” the candid throwback “Lover Let Me Show You My Heart,” and the carefree “Whiskey Anthem.” On many of the tracks found on The Healing, Jones opens up and tells a story that begs to be heard. One notable track, “Just How A Heart Breaks,” was written on the piano at Cumberland Heights in Nashville, Tennessee where Jones completed his 30-day stay in rehab. The album closes with the title track that is powerful and raw with honest lyrics that cut straight through your heart (that spark in our eyes/ that God was revealing/ may the hurt that we’re feeling/ lead to the healing.)

Jones recently sat down with PEOPLE Magazine for an exclusive tell-all feature. He opened up about his struggles with addiction and how the recording of The Healing was instrumental in his recovery. Jones felt it was time to publicly tell his story for the first time.

“I feel like at this point in my life I don’t want to be anything but candid. This record certainly reflects my headspace over the last few years and tells the story of what I’ve gone through, especially the title track of the record, ‘The Healing.’ Although I’ve been near the top before in my career, I’m looking forward to experiencing it all again; this time clean, clear and healthy.”

For the exclusive interview and a free download of the title track, “The Healing,” pick up the current issue of PEOPLE Country on newsstands Friday, March 28th.

In anticipation of the release, fans can pre-order The Healing on iTunes and receive instant downloads of “Honk (If You’re Tonky),” “Tennessee House,” and “The Healing.” Click HERE to pre-order.

Joshua Scott Jones

Country fans have become familiar with the bluesy tones of Joshua Scott Jones‘ voice through his work as part of the duo Steel Magnolia. Together with Meghan Linsey, the duo enjoyed success with “Keep On Lovin’ You.”

Now, Jones is putting his solo foot forward with the exclusive release of his debut single, “Honk (If You’re Tonky).”

“This has been a long time coming for me,” Jones tells Billboard. “I feel like it’s really a chance for my voice to be heard. It’s really a personal record that reflects on my head space over the past few years and what I’ve been through. I’m excited about it because I think it will translate well to all the fans we had as a duo in Steel Magnolia. I tried to take them with me for the ride, and gain a few more. It means a lot to me.”

I feel a kind of responsibility to the audience to make song choices that flow from start to finish and that build the show so they leave feeling satisfied and wanting to experience it again. Joshua Scott Jones Releases Debut Solo Single

Joshua Scott Jones

There was never an official statement but it looks like Steel Magnolia have certainly called it quits.  First Meghan Linsey announces she will debut her first solo EP later this year and now Joshua Scott Jones is releasing his very first single, “Honk (If You’re Tonky).

Joshua’s sing–available now on all digital retailers, including iTunes–sounds fresh and powerful and serves as an introduction to his forthcoming full-length album The Healing, due out later this year.

“‘Honk (If You’re Tonky)’ spoke very loudly to me right off the bat as an anthem for guys,” Joshua shares. “It speaks to the misunderstood side of men, that makes us rough around the edges while carrying the burden of a big heart and just wanting to live in harmony with yourself. What better than an ‘anthem’ for a first single?”

The singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist–who plays acoustic and electric guitar, piano and a little percussion on the album–also executively produced this very personal album. Three years since his last album release with Steel Magnolia, Joshua is looking forward to the next chapter of his career.

“It feels like a long time coming. It’s like moving into a new home or getting a new car; you have strong sentiment and deep attachment for the old car, but are eager to get behind the wheel of the new one.”

The Healing is a candid reflection of his life and the changes he’s experienced since first arriving on the scene.
Of The Healing, Joshua explains,

“I feel like at this point in my life as an artist, I can’t be anything but candid. The record certainly reflects my headspace over the last few years and tells the story of what I’ve gone through, especially the title track of the record, ‘The Healing.’”

“I always look forward to touring and at this point in my career connecting with a live audience and always trying to gain new fans is one of the things I look forward to most,” Joshua says. “The set list will definitely include the songs on my solo record, but there will be hints of Steel Magnolia. I feel a kind of responsibility to the audience to make song choices that flow from start to finish and that build the show so they leave feeling satisfied and wanting to experience it again. That’s my goal with every show.”
