Randy Travis Surprises Joe Nichols

Joe Nichols

It was an extra special night for Joe Nichols when country music legend Randy Travis paid an unexpected visit to his show last Saturday (Nov. 22) at Billy Bob’s Texas in Ft. Worth.

Travis even treated Nichols and family to some good ole’ Texas BBQ. In return, Nichols honored his musical hero with a solo acoustic performance of Travis’ hit “Promises,” a song Nichols performed for the first time ever as Travis watched from side stage.

Last year, Nichols was handpicked by Travis to record the duet “Tonight I’m Playin’ Possum,” a tribute to pair’s country music idol, the legendary George Jones, featured on Travis’ 2013 album release, INFLUENCE VOL. 1: THE MAN I AM.

Trisha Yearwood, Joe Nichols, The Band Perry Star On “Nashville”

Trisha Yearwood

An upcoming episode of “Nashville” is going to be packed with some of your favorite country music artists!  Trisha Yearwood, Joe Nichols and The Band Perry will star as themselves on the November 19 episode.  The storyline focuses on the Country Music Association Awards.

Yearwood says there are definitely similarities between what she experienced during the filming and the real awards show.

“It’s actually very similar,” she explains. “The only difference is I’m not in a gown and full hair and makeup at 10 o’clock in the morning. But you look at the teleprompter and you rehearse what you’re going to say. If you’re presenting [an award], it’s a pretty easy gig. This is good; it will be good rehearsal for me for the actual CMA Awards in a few weeks.”

Don’t forget to tune into country music’s REAL biggest night TONIGHT!  The 2014 CMA Awards will air tonight on ABC.

ASCAP, BMI and the CMA hosted a #1 party on Tuesday, September 16th to celebrate the songwriters and publishers behind “Yeah,” recorded by Joe Nichols. The three-week chart-topping single became co-writer Ashley Gorley’s sixteenth #1 song and Nichols’ sixth, and marked co-writer Bryan Simpson’s first trip to the top of the charts. Co-producers Tony Brown and Mickey Jack Cones were also honored, and publishers Combustion Music, Sea Gayle Music and Warner/Chappell Music Publishing as well as label Red Bow Records were on hand to congratulate the group.

Joe Nichols Stays Comfortable at #1 with “Yeah”

Joe Nichols

This week, multi-platinum selling country artist Joe Nichols earned his sixth career chart-topper when his latest smash “Yeah” soared to #1 on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart. Additionally, “Yeah” held the #1 position on the Billboard Country Airplay chart for its third successive week, making him only the second country artist this year to a have a three week #1 single on the chart (Luke Bryan’s “Play It Again” previously spent four weeks at #1 beginning in May 2014).

“Yeah” also spent two consecutive weeks at #1 on the Canadian Country Airplay charts. “Yeah” is the follow-up to Nichols’ recent #1 “Sunny And 75” and the second consecutive #1 single off his debut album for RED BOW RECORDS, CRICKETS.

Nichols broke yet another Billboard Country Airplay chart record two weeks ago when “Yeah” jumped from #5 to #1 and became the biggest chart leap in nearly a year (the former being Randy Houser’s “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight” in August 2013 worked by Stoney Creek Records, sister label to RED BOW).

“Yeah” has now surpassed 500,000 units sold to date.

“It was almost like I dropped off the planet,” Nichols tells Rolling Stone Country in the first of a three-part series of articles on the star. “But I think things happened for a reason…that I needed that time to feel the gratitude that I feel right now. Coming from basically the bottom of my career to what I think is the top of my career right now, it’s a pretty great feeling.”

Nichols continues to tour across the U.S. on select dates of Lady Antebellum’s TAKE ME DOWNTOWN tour, as well as his own headlining dates. For a full list of upcoming tour dates, visit
