JB and the Moonshine Band Release Mixtape

Mix tape

JB and the Moonshine Band released their third studio album, Mixtape, on June 30, and leadoff single, “Shotgun, Rifle, and a .45” is available for download and currently at Country radio.

This year, the band will play the 1000th live performance of their career, and will tour the U.S. in their Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine co-branded tour bus they have affectionately named “Ole Smoky.” The band continues to average 175 live tour dates per year, which they’ve done for the last two years in markets spanning across 40 states.

Hailing from East Texas, JB and the Moonshine Band’s story can only be explained as ‘fate.’ Comprised of drummer Gabe Guevara, guitarist Hayden McMullen, bassist Chris Flores and lead singer and guitarist JB Patterson, JB and the Moonshine Band was formed in 2009 when JB decided to give up his advertising career and start a band. When JB coordinated an open call audition in Tyler, TX, only three people showed up. He might have been disappointed in the lack of response, but once he heard them play, he realized that he couldn’t have hand picked a better band himself. The newly formed ensemble wasted no time and threw together a PA, rented a U-Haul van, and started taking any gigs they could find throughout East Texas.

In the fall of 2010, JB and the Moonshine Band released their debut album, Ain’t Goin’ Back to Jail. The sophomore release, Beer for Breakfast, followed in the spring of 2012 and was named one of the ‘Top Five Country Albums of the Year’ by Rolling Stone. The records produced six Top Tens and three consecutive No.1’s on the Texas Billboard Chart. JB and the Moonshine Band Release New Single Featuring Angaleena Presley

Blake and White

Blake and White

JB and the Moonshine Band are excited to announce their new single, “Black and White (feat. Angaleena Presley of Pistol Annies)”. The song, off the band’s sophomore album, Beer For Breakfast, was recently re-recorded as a duet with hit Country singer and member of Pistol Annies, Angaleena Presley.

“Angaleena is just the coolest, most down-to-earth girl, so we thought it would be perfect to do this song as a duet,” said frontman JB Patterson. Presley said, “JB’s music is playfully and sometimes painfully honest. As soon as I heard ‘Black and White,’ I knew we’d work well together.”

The two spent a whole day in the studio in Nashville tracking vocals and crafting the song into a true duet. This version is closer to how Patterson originally intended the song, and is more textured than the album version. The song was originally written in third person where Patterson is “basically telling a story about a girl and a guy [who’s] always on the road– times get hard and put strains on the relationship.” Presley and her husband are both in the music industry, and she said she’s “lived both sides of this story.” “You have to learn to let go of the conventional rules,” she admitted. Patterson and Presley went through each verse together, intertwining the parts to create a story from two perspectives. “Instead of third person, now it’s first person where the girl is telling the story of the girl and the guy is telling the story of the guy, which was the way I had intended it to be from the beginning,” Patterson said.

The two really connected musically, and look forward to writing something original together soon.

“It’s exciting and always fun to try new things. For whatever reason it seemed pretty effortless, and I think that shows in the actual audio itself,” Patterson said.

Presley agrees. “JB is hilarious, honest, and eager to make good music. His personality is right up my ‘creative’ alley and I think we’re going to have a blast when we’re running around Texas in November,” she says.

In addition to a week-long radio tour, Presley plans to join JB and the Moonshine Band for a run of special guest appearances called the Black and White Tour, with a concluding headlining slot at Billy Bob’s Texas on Nov. 15.
