Alan Jackson Makes Big Bucks for Small Earthquake Stricken Town

Alan Jackson

Aftershocks from last summer’s 5.8-magnitude East Coast earthquake are still being felt, literally, but Alan Jackson delivered a much better one in Virginia this past Sunday. The Music For Mineral: Aftershock of Hope concert helped raise more than $150,000 to help rebuild local schools around Mineral, VA.

“People here were so incredibly appreciative of Alan coming and performing,” says one attendee. “The work is not over, by any means,” a local says. “But this was a big boost for all the folks here affected by the quake. This one won’t be forgotten.”

The town won the contest to bring a free Alan Jackson concert to a community with the most fan votes. Folks near and far encouraged votes for the stricken town via social media and the internet.

This is just one of the properties the Jackson’s have for sale. The couple is also selling their Florida home.

“We’ve enjoyed our lake house for over 20 years, but as our girls have gotten older, we don’t find as many opportunities to use the property as a family,” Jackson said of the decision to sell.

“And after Denise’s fight with cancer last year, we’ve re-evaluated our lives and plans for the future and felt like this fits into those plans.”

The property also has a one bedroom cabin and a house boat along with loads of star gazing….

“Center Hill Lake has been a getaway for people going back as far as Hank Williams. … Just last summer, Carrie Underwood and her husband, Mike Fisher, visited with us up there one weekend,” Jackson said. “And these days you might see Jake Owen out there on his boat.”

Alan Jackson Heads “Thirty Miles West” This June

Alan Jackson

Alan Jackson will release his much anticipated album Thirty Miles West on June 5.  It is his debut album on ACR (Alan’s Country Records)/EMI Records Nashville and is produced by long-time producer and friend, Keith Stegall.  Jackson’s current single from the album is “So You Don’t Have To Love Me Anymore.”

When asked about the unique album title Jackson responds,

“There’s this highway that’s been in existence for forever now – it’s called the Dixie Highway and it runs from north of Michigan all the way down to South Florida, and I wrote a song about it that’s on the album. I grew up on Highway 34 outside of Newnan, Georgia, and that’s where we came up with Thirty Miles West. I think we were about thirty miles west of the official part of the Dixie Highway that runs through Georgia.”
