There is a brand new duo in town and they call themselves the “Dairy Daughters”. The lead singer, Shelby Dressel came from Avon, Florida and was a Top 40’s finalist from season 9 of American Idol.  Her musical partner, Megan Gertken, hails from Albany Minnesota and performed during the 2013 America’s Got Talent tour.

The two met while performing in Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge and instantly realized they had not only shared a wonderful harmony and a shared love of music, but they are both from – you guessed it – dairy farms!!  And this would be one of the reasons they named their recent single “Tomboy”.  They are both tomboys who grew up on the farms hunting, fishing and milking!

The song is pure grass roots country, resplendent with fiddle and guitar, with rich bluegrass country tones and a nice female harmony. They write their own songs, pick their tunes and are looking to spend a lot more time in Nashville.  They are busy performing anywhere they can get a gig and spend a lot of their time in on the Nashville scene.  Drop into Tootsie’s one  night if you are in Nashville – you may just be lucky enough to hear them in person!!

You can find some of their performances and Shelby’s interview with “Ellen” on YouTube.  Don’t forget to follow them on Facebook and Twitter as well.
