Genre-bending music magazine Relix is celebrating the end of 2017 with perhaps the most expansive issue of its four-decade-plus history. On newsstands now, Relix‘s December 2017 issue includes a remarkable array of articles and features highlighted by a major interview with cover star Chris Stapleton, once again demonstrating the venerable journal’s ongoing commitment to bridging multiple genres and musical approaches. The wide-ranging interview touches on a broad spectrum of subjects, including the tragic death of Tom Petty, with whom Stapleton collaborated earlier in the year:

“Stapleton pauses and his voice catches as he reflects on Tom Petty’s untimely passing in October. ‘When my booking agent first told me that they were thinking about having me out on the road, I didn’t figure it was real. And in the world of things that I get to do-which seems increasingly surreal every day-that was right at the top of the list. It was very cool. The last thing he ever said to me was: ‘I hope we get to do more of this.’ And I left there thinking that we might. Like so many in the musical world and, of course, the guys in his band, I was so heartbroken to learn that he had passed. I cried about it. That was a hard day for me.'”

What’s more, Relix‘s jam-packed Year End issue further includes their indispensible 2017 Holiday Gift Guide alongside coverage of such diverse artists as Mike Gordon, Spoon, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Nicole Atkins, Oteil Burbridge, J. Roddy Walston and The Business, Stewart Copeland, ODESZA, Stephen Stills & Judy Collins, and Dopapod, not to mention a special feature exploring the creation of the as-yet-unnamed beer brewed in partnership by Relix, Atlanta’s SweetWater Brewing Company, The String Cheese Incident’s Kyle Hollingsworth.

At Relix, we are as fascinated by the artistic process as our readers are,” said magazine publisher Peter Shapiro. “We are big music fans too. That’s why Relix’s mission is to not only uncover and explore what makes our favorite artist’s who they are, but also to help dig-in and explore tomorrow’s favorite artists. Relix readers are the most open-minded fanbase around right now — they love Jerry and Trey yes, but they also love punk and reggae and classical and soul and jazz, and today’s indie rock scene is made up of a huge amount of former Deadheads. And Chris Stapleton reflects the Relix vibe for the country music scene. So I think our readers will love our new Stapleton cover issue as their only criteria is that the music be great. That’s what inspires us here at the magazine every day.
