For 35 years, the Christmas 4 Kids organization has brought joy to thousands of children in the middle Tennessee area that might not otherwise get to experience it. Each year, more than 400 underprivileged children attend a Christmas party and then get to shop at Walmart with a chaperone for their Christmas gifts.
The country music community plays a big role in the organization, providing entertainment at its annual fundraising concert and a tour bus show where fans can meet the stars. Those same tour buses (more than 70!) are used to transport the children to Walmart for their shopping adventure.
This year’s concert was truly a Christmas event – Santa and Mrs. Claus greeted fans in the lobby of the Ryman Auditorium before the show and power vocalist John Berry treated fans to a beautiful medley of Christmas hits.
Duo Halfway to Hazard has been around for nearly a decade, but they made their debut performance at the Ryman with powerful southern rock harmonies that earned their place on the iconic stage. Newcomer Lindsay Ell shredded on guitar while decked out in black leather and stylish red kicks, delivering a soulful performance that showcased both her voice and playing ability.
Hunter Hayes was the headline performer, showcasing hits like “I Want Crazy” and previewing new songs like “More.” Known for his multi-instrumental prowess, Hunter didn’t disappoint. His set included a fiery jam session, crowd sing-alongs, and poignant vulnerability as he played piano on his new songs.
Other guest performers included hot new artist Brett Young, known for his smash hits “Sleep Without You” and “In Case You Didn’t Know.” Growing up as a pastor’s kid, Brett had fond memories of the holidays. He shared touching stories of serving homeless families with his church and how important it was to be that beacon of hope for less fortunate people.
The next Christmas 4 Kids event is the Tour Bus Show on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 5 – 9 p.m. at the Hendersonville, TN Walmart. For just $5, fans can meet 20-30 artists and see what life on the road is like! For more information, visit www.christmas4kids.org
