Last night, Eric Church played the Grand Ole Opry. Normally, he would be thrilled, but he explained that he didn’t want to go there. He didn’t want to pick up a guitar or sing. You see, he performed Friday night at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. 48 hours later, those fans that he shook hands with and sang with, were broken, bleeding and dead. He showed up on Wednesday night because of two fans; a husband and wife who were supposed to be there, but weren’t. Their seats were empty, because Sonny Melton had died after attempting to save his wife from the bullets that rained down on the crowd Sunday night.
“Those were my fans,” Eric said tearfully. “I saw that crowd with their hands in the air. . . No amount of bullets can take that away.”
