Carrie Underwood is in a little big of hot water. The country singer is being sued by a Canadian songwriting duo, who say her “Something in the Water” was directly taken from a song they submitted to her. According to The Tennessean, the songwriters say the hit song was ripped verbatim from a song they pitched to Carrie. Ron McNeill and Georgia Lyons, never heard back, but Underwood recorded “Something in the Water” the next year.
“The hook on the infringing work, as released on the album, is structurally and lyrically identical, and substantially similar melodically to plaintiffs’ composition of the same title,” McNeill and Lyons argue in their lawsuit.
I guess time will tell who comes out on top.
