Last night Jake Owen played to a rowdy and rambunctious crowd for his first headlining show in Nashville. Jake’s goal was to turn the Ascend Amphitheater into a beach party for the night and that he did. The beachy feel of the stage set up along with Jake running around in bare feet had us out of our seats wishing we had the breeze of the ocean and a few real palm trees and a pina colada in each hand.
“My first performance as a headliner in Nashville was everything I hoped it would be,” said Owen. “The audience was on their feet the entire set singing our songs. My little girl, my parents and my twin brother came into town from Florida to see the show. There were so many people in the crowd who helped me get to where I am today. Having Eric Paslay join me on stage to sing the song that changed my life, “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” which he co-wrote was so awesome. It was a special night that I’ll never forget.”
Jake will always hold a special place in my heart, he was one of the very first artists I was lucky enough to interview when I launched CMTT. We shared a bowl of cheese dip at Tin Roof and talked about his then recent ACM New Artist win. He was humble, happy and excited about where his career was headed. It was exciting to see Jake headline Nashville last night and continue to take his career and continue meet the goals he was so excited to talk about in 2009.
