Somewhere on the Road: With his The Devil Don’t Sleep Tour solidly underway – and the summer leg just announced – back-to-back platinum country outlier Brantley Gilbert continues looking for ways to reach out to his fans beyond the high voltage shows the BG Nation has come to expect. With a little creativity, some help from his team and a whole lot of “sneaking up” on them, Gilbert has started surprising fans with random calls – just to check in, hear what’s going on and give them tickets to upcoming shows, including special VIP Packages that include access to a special lounge, a preshow acoustic performance and Q+A, exclusive merch plus more.
“The thing about the BG Nation,” Gilbert says, “is they’re some of the hardest working, hardest playing, most interesting people in the world to talk to… and it’s hard to find ways to reach out to them beyond meet and greet. I figured if we could pull in some phone numbers, I could call the fans direct, right? Just give’em a call and see what’s going on.”
Culling the numbers from the fan club and ticket sales sign up, Gilbert has been taking those numbers on the road – and calling fans when he has the time to talk. For him, taking the middle man out, puts him directly in touch with the people who love – and live – this music.
“You just never know who you’re gonna be talking to,” he says with a laugh. “And that’s half the fun of it: hearing the fans’ stories, about their lives and everything they’ve got going on. We’ve got some crazy, awesome fans – and I wanna know all about ‘em.”
“We’ve been working with Brantley for years,” says Stephen Glicken, VP of Business Development for Songkick, “and when he wanted to create a way to speak with his fans directly, we were ready to help. Brantley has taken his dedication to his fans one step further by actually surprising them with a phone call. Out of the blue, totally random and just because. Things like this shows why the BG Nation has such passionate fans, and we love being able to help him interact with them in such personalized ways.”
Brantley’s working with Songkick to pull this surprise off, and since opening the special splash page, tens of thousands of people have signed up. And starting last weekend in Evansville, IN the man who’s written six #1s – including “Bottoms Up,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do,” “Country Music Be Country Wide,” “My Kind of Party” and the CMA Song of the Year nominee “Dirt Road Anthem” — has been making calls and checking in with his people. If you want to be one of the connected, you can enter your information there.
The best call videos will be posted on the page starting this week. Fans can watch the phone calls, check out video from the tour and buy tickets to upcoming shows. For now, though, Brantley’s settling in, smiling and dialing – and having the time of his life.
