Country star, actor and former oil rig worker Trace Adkins appears in the upcoming Lionsgate film Deepwater Horizon (directed by Peter Berg). This past Monday (9/19), he joined the cast (Mark Wahlberg, Kate Hudson, Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, and others) at the premiere in Trace’s home state of Louisiana ahead of the film’s Sept 30th debut.
The film recounts the tragic 2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, which led to the BP oil spill and killed 11 of the 126 workers aboard the rig that night. Trace, who worked on oil rigs for 10 years before becoming a Country star, had the honor of meeting survivor Mike Williams and his wife Felicia, portrayed in the film by Mark Wahlberg and Kate Hudson.
Representing his home state is something this veteran hit-maker takes seriously. Most recently it was announced that he could not think of taking money out of the state, given its recent devastating floods. Instead, he donated the fees he would have earned from performing in Vinton, LA to the Red Cross’ relief efforts.
Trace has been a Red Cross spokesperson since 2012, and he raised over $3 million dollars for the organization while competing on All-Star Celebrity Apprentice.
