Both Keifer and Shawna Thompson know what it’s like to have family members serve in the U.S. military, so when they partnered with the USO of Nashville for their “Rollin for a Reason” bike ride, it was a perfect combination.
“Over the past few years of our career, we’ve periodically done shows for the USO,” says Keifer. “Both Shawna’s dad and my dad were in the Army. It was a really good marriage of being able to partner two things that I love: motorcycles and the military.”
Held over the weekend, the second annual bike ride started at Sloan’s motorcycles in Murfreesboro and crossed through the scenic hillsides of middle Tennessee, ending at the picturesque Natchez Hill Winery at Fontanel. The award-winning duo treated riders to an intimate acoustic performance, which included their hits “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not,” “If I Didn’t Have You,” and their latest single “You Make it Look So Good.”
Also on hand at the event was Shawna and Keifer’s 6-month-old son, Cooper. Although he wasn’t quite old enough to ride in the event, Keifer is already laying the groundwork.
“I know I’m gonna hear ‘but Dad does, he rides!” says Shawna. “His nursery is actually motorcycles everywhere.”
During their time off to have their son, Keifer and Shawna took a close look at where they’re at musically and who they are.
“It’s really easy to get caught up in what’s going on around you. It’s like this continual ocean drift of changing who you are,” says Keifer. But the duo is proud of the foundation they’ve built and plan to continue making music that fans love. “We are Thompson Square, we are the married couple in country music, and we are very proud of what we do and the music we put out. Let’s take that to the umpteenth level.”
Thompson Square has been working on a new album that fans can expect later this year.
“It ranges from very edgy to very sad and everything in between,” says Keifer.
