She’s going back to where it all began!
American Idol winner Carrie Underwood will perform on the upcoming series finale, PEOPLE revealed exclusively. The country superstar first auditioned for the reality singing competition in 2004 and became the show’s fourth winner.
Carrie is just one of the many familiar faces that will return for Idol’s fifteenth (and final) farewell.
Inaugural winner Kelly Clarkson will not be in attendance for the finale because of the impending birth of her second child. But the singer performed on the show in February and brought everyone – including herself – to tears with her performance of “Piece by Piece”.
“I’m pregnant and it’s nostalgic and I can’t believe it’s the last season,” the expectant mother said. “Yeah, really sorry I just bawled.”
American Idol airs Thursdays (at 8 p.m. ET) on Fox. The two-part finale will air Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7.
