Acme Feed & Seed, in partnership with TuneIn, is pleased to announce the launch of Acme Radio. On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, listeners worldwide will be able to experience the variety and excellence of all things Nashville thanks to TuneIn’s unique platform – an app that provides listeners access to more than four million radio stations streaming from every continent. Tom Morales, owner of Acme Feed & Seed, reopened the doors of the historic, century-old building to bring locals back to downtown Nashville. He succeeded by renovating a building rich with local history and by inviting Nashville’s best players to the stage.
“If you are one of the best musicians in Nashville, you are one of the best in the world. Acme’s stage gives this talent a live, local platform and Acme Radio will give them an international one. We are creating the opportunity for these artists to be discovered regardless of the genre,” said Morales.
Since opening in 2014, Acme has earned the reputation for hosting the best of the best musicians, as well as those artists who don’t necessarily fit the music row profile, from a wide range of genres- reggae, blues, rock, country, electronic, gospel, funk and more. Acme Radio is the next natural step of Acme’s mission to support local music and export all things Nashville to a waiting worldwide audience. Acme Radio will broadcast the past, present and future of Nashville’s musical repertoire, as well as live-streamed concerts from any one of the four floors, flooding internet airwaves with the world class talent that calls Nashville home.
In addition to music, Acme Radio’s programming includes hand-picked shows hosted by Nashville’s top influencers that illustrate the overall essence of Music City’s lifestyle – from business to boozing, food to football, and everything in between. Lifestyle shows include Cropper Radio Hour with Steve Cropper, TAG Radio Hour with Guthrie Trapp, Roots Now with Barry Mazor, Entrepreneurial Mind with Dr. Jeff Cornwall and Kane Harrison, Vinyl Lunch with Tim Hibbs, Bhop & Baribeau Show with Brad Hopkins and Rachel Baribeau, The Side Men with Bruce Bouton, Cocktails with Nashville’s Bar Heroes, The Hive with Jennifer Masley, Pairs Wells with Food with Executive Chef Matt Farley, Nashville Jazz with Greg Pogue, Film Nashville Transmedia Hour with Andy van Roon, and Buzz Cuts UK with Chris Smith. Acme Radio differs from the typical radio format as it is self-funded station, providing an unfiltered lifestyle voice that reflects the real Music City. No consultants, no extraneous pressures, no need for political correctness. In short: we play what we want and what listeners want to hear. This station invites listeners to take ownership of the airwaves – tell us who you’re listening to, what you want to hear and we’ll spin it. Acme Radio is created for Nashville, by Nashville, with the help of Nashville.
Looking for a program director to oversee operations, Acme turned to local radio pro Justin Hammel. In 2002 he joined the ranks of Nashville’s lighthouse indie station, Lightning 100, helping to introduce artists like Arcade Fire, Alabama Shakes, and Alt-J to his dedicated listeners well before they were seen atop festival lineups and year-end lists.
“I’m so excited to be a part of Acme Radio. Building a radio station from the ground up has been an amazing experience and it’s just the beginning. I can’t wait to introduce our rich Nashville culture to a global audience and to show everyone why Nashville truly is Music City,” said Hammel.
The in-house, state-of-the-art studio will be buzzing daily, bringing fresh tunes and exclusive interviews to listeners near and far. The weekly programming schedule will be devoted to the discovery, development and preservation of the Nashville way of life. Discovery in that Acme Radio, under the direction of Hammel, will feed listeners the best in underground music and culture. Development-wise, the station gives artists and influencers an opportunity to expand their fan base globally with exclusive interviews and live-streamed concerts. The programming team is well aware that Music City would not exist as we know it, if not for the great musicians, entrepreneurs and artists who built this town brick-by-brick and lyric-by-lyric. History buffs and music fans alike will be entertained and educated as Hammel and the Acme Radio team chat with the great session players and songwriters who inhabit this town – aiming to preserve the city’s rich musical history for many generations to come.
