Clint Black releases On Purpose TODAY, his first all-new studio album in a decade. The 14-track album, already receiving widespread critical praise from radio programmers, media and industry tastemakers alike, was recorded at Black’s studio in Nashville.
On Purpose is a strikingly diverse group of self-produced songs that include Black’s third duet with his wife, actor Lisa Hartman, the lilting “You Still Get to Me”. “Time For That,” “Doing It Now For Love” and “Summertime Song” are catchy examples of how groove-soaked his music can be, while ballads like “Only One Way to Live,” “Stay Gone,” “Breathing Air” and “Last Day” cut deeper than ever before.
Of the album’s title Black says, “On Purpose comes from a line in the song “Better and Worse.” It represents my attitude towards life, in that it’s never easy to ‘go your own way’, but the rewards are greater when you follow your heart. I know that’s what my fans expect from me, and I hope that they hear that in the songs on this album.”
“Musically, On Purpose is right where I want to be,” added Black. “I pushed myself hard for this album, doing more of the guitar work, even playing slide guitar for the first time.”
