Lionel Richie experienced extreme cross-over success with last year’s release of Tuskegee, an album compiled of songs and duets featuring country artists like Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Tim McGraw, Little Big Town, Jennifer Nettles and Rascal Flatts.
At last week’s CMT Artists of the Year red carpet, Lionel hinted that more country collaborations may indeed be on the way, particularly with country man Luke Bryan. Lionel insists that minus the hunting, Luke and he are practically the same person, and he was honored when Luke wanted to share the stage with him after being honored by CMT.
“I kept saying to Luke, ‘Don’t you want to do one of your songs?’” Richie said. “He said, ‘Lionel, we can do my songs later. We’re going to do your songs tonight.’ Can you believe it? I’m really honored.”
So stay tuned, it looks like Lionel may be spreading his country roots a little further in the future.
