It turns out Gary Allan isn’t the country music artist that’s a little sad about the direction country music is going. Zac Brown recently spoke with 93.7 JRfm, and called out friend Luke Bryan’s current single as part of the epidemic that is plaguing the genre.
There’s not a lot of the country format that I really enjoy listening to. What we do is not necessarily traditional country music. But we play our own instruments and we put in harmonies,” Brown tells Vancouver’s 93.7 JRfm. “If I hear one more tailgate in the moonlight, daisy duke song, I wanna throw up. There’s songs out there on the radio right now that make me ashamed to be even in the same format as some other artist.”
“I love Luke Bryan, and he’s had some great songs, but this new song is the worst song I’ve ever heard,” Brown says. “I see it being giant commercially, successful within what is called country music these days, but I also feel like that the people deserve something better than that.”
“To me country music has always been the home for a great song, ” Zac says, adding that when a song makes him want to throw-up it makes him embarrassed to be a part of the genre.
What is Zac listening to right now? Sheryl Crow’s new album, particularly her song “Waterproof Mascara.”
What do you think about Zac’s comments?
