Taria has been working the music scene since the age of 15. She has opened for Lorrie Morgan and worked with legend Vern Gosdin. Her current album “Everybody Wants Some” shows off her strong country vocals and her pure sound. Taria is passionate about being on stage and has a permanent spot playing on Broadway down in Nashville. CMTT recently caught up with Taria to find out some of her influences, what it’s like playing on Broadway and what’s on her career bucket list.
CMTT: Where are you from?
Taria: I was born in Nashville, TN and raised in the small town of Portland, TN located about 30 miles North of Nashville.
CMTT: When did you start making music?
Taria: I tell people I started making music before I could speak complete sentences. My family & friends tell me that I came out of the womb singing a song!
CMTT: Do you write your own music?
Taria: No, I don’t consider myself a songwriter, but I’m a storyteller. I’m a lover of great lyrics and a catchy melody. I feel very blessed being able to record songs written by some of the best writers in Nashville, including Mark Nesler, George Teren, Rivers Rutherford, Tony Martin, Tom Shapiro and Jennifer Hanson, just to name a few. I’m very proud of my debut album titled “Everybody Wants Some” and very excited to share my music for the world to hear!
CMTT: Tell us about playing on Broadway?
Taria: There are several Honky Tonks up and down this famous Nashville strip with constant music going on 7 days a week from 10am till 2am. I perform regularly every Monday and Wednesday night (6pm-10pm) at Whiskey Bent Saloon. All bands play a 4 hour shift singing & playing for tips. My band and I involve our audience by taking request and we enjoy playing a large variety of music from Traditional Country, Modern Country, Pop, R&B, Classic Rock and of course my originals. Nashville is a tourist town and it’s very cool to have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Broadway is not an easy gig but for me it’s a lot of fun performing with great musicians and at the end of the day if I’m able to touch others through my music and give my audience a memorable show I’m a happy girl!
CMTT: Who is your favorite artist to cover?
Taria: Ooh..That’s a tough question! Growing up my musical taste was very diverse. I love performing all kinds of music. I call my music “Crock” which means a mixture of Country+Rock = Taria style! I enjoy covering Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Miranda Lambert, Bonnie Raitt, Journey, Lady Gaga, Adele, Guns N Roses & many more!
CMTT: Who are some of your musical heroes?
Taria: Oh my, too many to name…Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Lorrie Morgan, Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, Reba McEntire, Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless, Ray Price, Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., Marty Robbins, George Strait and the list goes on!
CMTT: What has one defining moment of your career been?
Taria: In 1998 I got to perform on The Grand Ole Opry introduced by one of my favorite artists Lorrie Morgan. I sang Patsy Montana’s song “I Wanna Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart” and received a standing ovation. The Opry has been the most thrilling experience of my musical career and I thank God everyday I got to live one of my biggest dreams!
CMTT: What are three career goals on your bucket list?
Taria: To be an Opry member someday, To have a #1 hit and To be a mentor and a positive influence through my music
CMTT: In three words describe your music to us?
Taria: Crock (country + rock = Taria style), Genuine and Sincere.
