Before we get another dose of “American Idol” in a couple of days, we wanted to make sure you caught the highlights of last week’s country contestants! The San Antonio, Texas and Long Beach, California auditions were full of surprises and interesting characters, but also produced some notable country hopefuls!
23 year-old Ann Difani from Arkansas was nominated by her supportive husband and given the chance to come to San Antonio to show the judges what she could do. She didn’t disappoint as she effortlessly belted out “Stronger” by Faith Hill winning herself a golden ticket to Hollywood!
Micah Johnson sure made the judges smile with his impressive version of the Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried.” The 24 yea-old singer from Georgia has overcome some obstacles. While having his tonsils removed the doctor hit a nerve causing him to have a speech impediment. He surely was inspiring as he has chosen to not let it get him down and to continue singing, which he clearly was born to do.
27 year-old Halie Hilburn from Texas brought a special guest to “duet” with during her audition. The Idol hopeful chose to sing the classic “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart” with her very special friend, a puppet named Oscar! The singer has been a ventriloquist since she was a little girl and thought the puppet should accompany her! While the judges ended up liking Halie, they basically requested that Oscar retire and did not invite him to join Halie in Hollywood!
Next week the drama of Hollywood Week ensues and we get to see how our country hopefuls hold up…we will keep you posted!
