At the ripe age of 76 years old, Kris Kristofferson will release Feeling Mortal, a collection of 10 songs that respectively look back on an amazing life. And like most things, Kris tells The Tennessean, that songwriting has changed with age.
It’s like sex,” says Kris. “Yeah, it don’t happen as often, but it still feels as good,” he says. “The songs take a lot longer now, but writing one feels the same as it did when I was 32.”
And, after seeing so many of his friends and fellow songwriters and artists of his generation pass one, Kris is realistic about his life.
You can’t help but think about it,” he says. “It’s a brief time we’ve got here. The thing that’s surprising to me is actually how good I feel. I’m not depressed that it’s going to be over, I’m grateful for how wonderful it’s been.”
Truth be told, I’m not sure the end is anywhere close to near for Kris, and we’re glad. Feeling Mortal hits stores on Tuesday, January 29th.
