Kelly Clarkson and Vince Gill “Don’t Rush” — New Single Review

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson’s new single “Don’t Rush” premiered on Nashville radio station WSIX 97.9 this past Monday afternoon. Kelly was very excited and tweeted,

“Thank you @98WSIX for playing my new song Don’t Rush!! I sat in my car, in front of my house, just so I could hear it ha! I owe y’all!!”

The song, which features vocals and stellar guitar playing by the talented Vince Gill, is an absolute home run and something to get excited about. If a song can be refreshing then “Don’t Rush” is just that. It is unlike anything out today and showcases just how vocally talented Kelly Clarkson is. Vince’s pure tenor voice adds a certain richness and depth to the harmonies that gives the song a certain charm. Kelly’s voice has that underlying warm and soulful sound, which to me has always been meant for country music, and seems to fit quite comfortably on a tune like this. The overall sound of the song leans toward adult contemporary, but and that’s a BIG but, it definitely has a country element as well.

I think releasing this song as a single is a great move by Kelly. The girl seems to fly high on the charts when she pairs up with country stars. “Because of You” with the fabulous Reba McEntire, and “Don’t You Wanna Stay” with hit maker Jason Aldean both were very popular. While I wouldn’t exactly call this an actual duet as Vince just sings harmonies and echoes on a word here and there, I still say this is a good direction for her to go. The song is very country radio friendly and I could see it doing well on the charts. When Kelly was nominated for a CMA award for “Female Vocalist of the Year” eyebrows were raised. Besides the above-mentioned duets and a country version of one of her songs, her involvement in country music was somewhat slim. However after the nominations went out she tweeted,

“Yesterday-10 year anniversary of me winning idol. Today- nominated in female vocalist category for the CMA’s!! YEAH!! I promise to earn that!”

I believe the release of “Don’t Rush” is her starting to earn “it” as she promised. I know Kelly likes country music, and as I said I believe her amazing voice suits it oh so well. She is a talented artist; there is no way around that. Whether she continues to go more towards the country spectrum or she is just passing through, “Don’t Rush” is a great song and worth checking out.

Kelly will be releasing her new album, “Greatest Hits Chapter One” November 19th and it is available for pre order now on iTunes and www.kellyclarkson.com

Kelly Clarkson has a fabulous voice. But, it saddens me that she would allow her pictures to be so airbrushed. It does not even look like her. I thought she would be a “more true to herself” type of girl.

i recorded the cma’s n have watched kelly n vinces perform her song at least 15 times . i love it. its still recorded.

    To Louise,

I don’t think she has a say or cares how her cover looks. I do remember a few years back during her fourth album that she knows that the photoshop the crap out of her. It’s so blatantly fake that it’s comical. Either way, it’s not as if the artists were trying to deceive anyone with the amount of airbrushing that they performed which , in my opinion, is far more damaging.

Back to the song though, I cannot stress how much I love this song. It has such an awesome kick-back feel to it.
