Kellie Pickler has been busy promoting her new album, 100 Proof; but she’s spent a lot of her time on the road and over seas entertaining our troops. Parade.com sat down to talk to Kellie about all the things she holds dear.
On performing for the troops overseas.
“Out of everything that I’ve ever been able to be a part of, the USO is the one that I’m most proud of and honored to be able to work with. What they’re doing for our military is so great. I’ve loved taking a little piece of home to our troops in Iraq or Afghanistan.”
Do you do anything different for your USO performances?
“Every time that I’ve gone on a USO tour, I only take about three guitar players, so it’s a very intimate setting. We always do meet and greets before and after the shows and try to take as many pictures as we can.”
Is there a particular moment that stands out to you?
“At lunch and dinner, I go to the cafeteria or wherever the military is eating so we can sit and talk and hang out. I just love hearing people’s stories. I’m so fascinated about what they do and I’m so appreciative. I’ve seen how hard it is and it just takes someone very special to be able to commit and do what our military does.”
