CMTT Exclusive: 10 Quick Quirky Questions with Marlee Scott

Marlee Scott

Marlee Scott will release her debut U.S. Country album in early 2012. Her new single, “Train Wreck,” will be released to Country radio on Jan. 23 and to iTunes on Jan. 24.

A native of Ontario, Canada, Scott was nominated for the CCMA Rising Star Award in 2010 at the prestigious Canadian Country Music Awards. Her single, “Here to Heaven,” was an international success, going Top 20 in Canada and Australia and No. 1 in England, Germany and Holland.

“Train Wreck” is the second single from Scott’s forthcoming U.S. debut, due out in spring 2012 through Big Ride Records.

“Train Wreck grabbed me right out of the gate the first time I heard it,” says Scott. “The Country/Rock groove and Bluegrass down-home Country chorus had me dancing around my condo! It brings such a fun tongue-in-cheek outlook on what it’s like to fall for the wrong person, but you just can’t seem to get enough. I love making people smile and chuckle and want to sing along, and ‘Train Wreck’ seems to do it every time.”

Nashville songwriting vets Marcus Hummon, Jedd Hughes and Sarah Buxton penned the rhythm-heavy number, with Country superstar Vince Gill contributing backing vocals to the track.

“Canada has had a great history of some of the best music I have ever heard,” says Gill. “My wish for Marlee is to be part of that rich history.”

10 QUICK QUIRKY QUESTIONS with Marlee Scott

Q:  What is a question no one ever asks you in interviews but you wish they would?
A:  I love random questions, like if you had to choose between captain crunch and fruity pebbles what would you choose? Anything fun and simple is awesome!

Q:  What is your favorite US city and why?
A:  I really love Coastal cities. I always say salt water runs through my veins. I really enjoyed Seattle, and the Los Angeles area is fantastic as well. Oh, and I can’t forget Norfolk, it’s absolutely beautiful countryside there, and once again, it’s right on the ocean.

Q:  It’s 3 AM and you’re not asleep. What are you most likely doing?
A:  Thinking….about everything. I always seem to come up with the best song ideas at night time. I sometimes stay up late if I am really inspired by a song I am writing. But as I said, sometimes if I am awake at that time I just am thinking about anything and everything going on in my life. Could be something as simple as what I should wear the following day!

Q:  If you could have five people over for dinner, dead or alive, who would they be?
A:  I would love to sit down with Shania Twain and hear about her journey to stardom. I am sure she has tons of crazy stories to tell. I really think Michael Buble and Blake Shelton are funny in interviews so I think it would be rather amusing to have them for dinner. I was a huge Backstreet Boys fan growing up so I would love to have one of them (or all) over and hear about their stories of success and stardom. I have found that I am fascinated by the civil war, so a soldier or someone who was alive and in the midst of the Civil war.

Q:  What has been the best moment of your day?
A:  I love animals, so probably any time of the day I get to interact with animals, like hanging with my cat on the couch or if I am visiting my Mom, riding my old horse.

Q:  Do you have a bucket list? If yes, name three things on your list.
A:  I would absolutely love to see Europe, especially London and the south of France. A visit to New York City is also on there. Of course, playing to an arena full of people to see my headlining show is a huge dream of mine.

Q:  Who do you count as your mentor(s)?
A:  My Dad is a big mentor of mine. He has worked very hard throughout his life and achieved many things because of his hard work and determination. I would also say that I am inspired by my Manager Gerry’s hard working way of life as well. My Mother also shows me how important the small things in life are, and I value that in her.

Q:  If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
A:  I am too impatient.

Q:  What do you consider your greatest success?
A:  Probably my greatest success is that I have been able to get this far in the music business. I have so far to go still but it takes thick skin and a lot of hard work and a great team of people behind you to achieve your goals. I look at where I was five years ago, or even this time last year and it’s crazy how far I have come.

Q:  Tell us something about you most people don’t know?
A:  I am an accomplished equestrian. I used to show my horses in three day events.
I was voted most likely to be Britney Spears at my High School Graduation.
I am obsessed with Kraft 1/3 less fat smooth peanut butter.

Q: So…When did you have a pop single out in Canada that failed bad enough to make you call Shania Twain a hero and turn to making a country record??
