Chris Young Shines Bright With “Neon”

Killer voice? Check. Songs that’ll get your boots tappin’? Check. Devilishly good looks? Check. It seems as though Chris Young has everything a successful country star needs to be considered “big time.” His third album, “Neon,” hits stores today and it is definitely chock full of big-time material. It reminds me of when Miranda Lambert released “Revolution” (also her third major release) and became a full-fledged superstar. I believe that’s what we’re about to see happen to Chris Young.

His previous release, “The Man I Want to Be,” spawned his first three career number one singles (“Gettin’ You Home,” “The Man I Want to Be,” “Voices”) and “Neon” is sure to follow suit. The album’s first single, “Tomorrow,” has already been on the Billboard Hot Country charts for 21 weeks and reached as high as #4.

The album starts off with a track called “I Can Take It From Here.” I see it as somewhat of a continuation, if you will, of “Gettin’ You Home.” It’s about staying in with that significant other and enjoying each other rather than going out somewhere. And if that’s not enough to make a girl melt, wait until you hear “Lost.” Whether you’re lost in the city, lost in the woods, or anywhere else for that matter, it doesn’t matter as long as I’m lost with you. Forget the cell phones, forget the GPS — let’s get lost in each other. Swoon. Am I right, ladies?

No need to fret, boys. Not every track on the record is a mushy love song. Take, for example, “Save Water, Drink Beer” — ahh, the motto of 99% of men over the age of 21. Let’s face it, country fans like to party. Having seen him perform this in concert a few times, I can tell you that it’s definitely a fan favorite in the live show. Let’s do our part by going green. So, basically, what he’s saying is this: We need to conserve water. Bring on the beer!

The record’s title track, “Neon,” is reminiscent of something George Strait may have recorded in his early years. This is about as country as it gets. Chris is arguably the “countriest of the country” among today’s male vocalists. And you can quote me on that.

I truly believe that big things are in store for this guy after the release of this record. He’s battling it out with new releases from Blake Shelton and Ashton Shepherd this week, but I suspect he’s going to give them a run for their money with this stellar 10-song collection.

“Neon” is out TODAY, so go get yourself a copy. You can do so on iTunes, Amazon, or anywhere CDs are sold.

Chris is currently on tour with Jason Aldean, but he will also be playing solo shows and some dates with Blake Shelton throughout the rest of the year. Check here to see if he’s coming to a town near you.

Love this article. I am so excited for Chris that all this good stuff is happening. I so hope you are right about him becoming a full fledged superstar, I have always felt he would attain that honor since the first time I heard him sing in 2006.
