Three brothers – Ashley, Austin, and Adam Clark – comprise the band named Sons of Sylvia and each one of them has vast experience in the music industry. Ashley played fiddle and sang background vocals with Carrie Underwood and Austin and Adam toured with SheDaisy. The boys used to jam together in the basement and sent a few songs into Fox’s American-Idol-inspired Next Great American Band and won the 2007 competition over 10,000 contenders for the title. With the win they scored a record contract with 19 Recordings/Interscope Records.
Their album, Revelation, is the result of hundreds of writing and playing hours and is now available on iTunes and Amazon. One of the songs, “John Wayne” is filled with amazing dobro and mandolin, along with an amazing vocal range for Ashley. The song has some really funky musical distortions that add a unique sound to the country/folk ballad. The gist of the song is the singer being like “John Wayne” in his quest for his love – never backing down nor giving up.
The title track song, “Revelation” is another country/folk genre beginning with an intriguing line “I was born the day John Lennon died” and tells about his own revelation in life. The instrumentals are uniquely their own combination and the ballad has a taste of Bon Jovi flavor to it. I really liked this song – simply stated with fantastic instrumentals and vocals.
It’s apparent that all three brothers are extremely talented and are on their way to a wonderful future together. You can follow the band on www.myspace.com/sonsofsylvia, www.sonsofsylvia.com, and on Twitter at www.twitter.com/SonsOfSylvia.
