American Idol has seen it’s fair share of great country music artists.  Carrie Underwood ring a bell?  Each year I anxiously await country week during the American Idol season.  It’s always to fun to see who will perform, what songs each contestant will sing and most importantly who will be the celebrity mentor.  When CMT Radio Live asked Keith Urban if he would ever consider being a mentor on American Idol this is what he had to say;

“That’s a tricky thing, because I think there’s a lot of things we can do to help younger artists avoid some of the things we’ve avoided,” 

“It’s a delicate balance, where we don’t seem like we know it all. I think a lot of artists just need to find their own way, too, because there are no rules to any of it. That’s the thing. You just got to be yourself. I’d like to do it off camera. I think I’d be interested in doing that, but not on camera.”

Personally, I think Keith would make a fantastic mentor. Those kids could learn a thing or two from an entertainer like him but you have to admire his willingness to step back from the situation and understand the balance.
