People magazine will feature Chely Wright on the cover, but this appearance has very little to do with her music. Chely is “coming-out” and telling-all that she’s homosexual. In the article, Chely reveals that she didn’t come out earlier because there was no precedent set in country music.
“There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality,” she tells PEOPLE. “I wasn’t going to be the first.”
Now, Chely is ready to reveal all. The People article preceded a memoir Chely is releasing entitled Like Me, as well as her first album in five years, Lifted off the Ground.

Good for her I guess. She is from right down the road from me…doesn’t mean anything either way to me.
If she was a big name artist, this potentially could be a career killing move. Since she hasn’t had much going the last few years, this will probably blow over, and most people won’t even hear about it.
I still think she’s hot, one way or the other
Good for Chely for coming to terms with herself. Can’t help but question the timing and the fact that she had to come out publicly after her career is dead though.
Chely’s music career was pretty much over before this announcement anyway. She hasn’t had a Top 20 hit in 10 years. I would have admired her more if she announced this earlier but now it just seems like she is trying to jump start her career.
