Hey everybody! So it’s been a while since I’ve blogged…well, that’s because I’ve been so dang busy. I just got back from Kuwait & Iraq last week. I think my body is still getting used to our time zone. We were there for 2 weeks and played 5 shows for the troops. It was the coolest trip I’ve ever been on, hands down. The soldiers were so receptive & happy that we were there. Some of them have been there for a while, and some of them are going home soon. It was really cool to hear some of the stories from the guys. All of them said the hardest thing about what they do is being away from family, and I know it’s just as hard on the families. But I tell you what, being over there with them kinda made us (me & the band guys) all want to sign up:) Now obviously that’s not an option since my album is coming out APRIL 20th!!!!!!

But anyway, we got to do some really cool things…like shoot a machine gun, which was my favorite. We got to stay in one of Saddam’s palaces a few nights, other nights our lodging wasn’t quite as nice. ;) I guess the weirdest thing was seeing all these lakes in Baghdad, of course they were man-made, actually Saddam-made so he could swim or perhaps skinny dip, I’m not sure. lol We got to tour the Victory over Iran palace & Victory over America palace (in which there was no victory, especially since we were the ones to bomb the thing). One room in the Victory over America palace was the size of a football field – too bad we didn’t have a football. Another thing that was very interesting was Saddam’s love of pastel colors. They were everywhere! It looked like Easter had thrown up on everything! Interesting. And very beautiful too. The band & I got to be a part of a soldier’s reenlistment, and it was very emotional & inspiring. Soldiers can choose to do their reenlistment ceremony anywhere, anytime, and for him to choose to do it with us was very cool. All the shows went great, and it was good to spend some time with the guys afterwards at the meet and greets. At the very last show at Camp Slayer, it rained on us, but we stuck it out and finished the show. I’ve never played in the rain before. It was kinda fun except for the part where my mouth was filling up with water while I was singing. Hahaha! We were very well taken care of over there. I literally felt like the President riding around in our SUVs & wearing our bulletproof vests & helmets. I will remember this experience forever.

After I got back, I realized I had gained a few pounds from all the good eats on the military bases (ice cream at every meal will do that), and had to get ready for a bathing suit photo shoot in Malibu, CA. So I ran, did some hot yoga, & tried to eat healthy before I left. We landed in Los Angeles Sunday afternoon to find out there had been an earthquake. I’ve never been in an earthquake, and I’d like to keep it that way. :) We woke up Monday morning (day of shoot) to rainy, cold weather. Ugh!! I was supposed to shoot the cover of First magazine on the beach in the sun. There was NO SUN!! So after we got our Jamba Juice (which is the 1st thing I get when I’m on the west coast), God decided to clear it up for us. Sun came out, rain went away, the wind continued, & it did not get any warmer. So I was on the beach in my bathing suit shivering, teeth chattering, while trying to smile. It was pretty funny! I think we got some great shots though! I guess I’ll find out when I get to see the pictures back. What’s the first thing I eat after I get back into real clothes? PINKBERRY!! SOOO good. Also, pizza & onion rings were to follow. I figured I deserved it after being out in the cold all afternoon. We had to fly back to Nashville Tuesday morning, and it was nice to come home to gorgeous weather! Let’s just hope it lasts.

Talk to ya’ll next week…or you can follow me on Twitter.com/whitneyduncan to find out my every move in life. Hahaha!

My son saw you in Ramadi. He was interviewed during your concert. He didn[t get to meet you. He had to go out on mission. Our family would like to come and see you at a concert when he returns in Aug.
    We like your music.
