Frederic, WI…I’ve grown up going up there every summer and stay in an old cabin to go fishing with my family where we’ve made lots of memories. It’s a nice escape from Milwaukee when we go up there since there’s not many people and it’s out in the country. It’s relaxing and one of those small towns that not many have heard of, but you’re proud to know of and visit.
My favorite small town is my own home town of Black Mountain, NC. There’s a General Store on the corner of the main red light in town- where every store employee knows your name, who your family is and where you work. Up and down main street there are so many small shops that have that same hometown feeling to them. I enjoy going back home to visit when I can just because I know that I’m “going home”. There’s a small lake on the other side of town where you can take your kids to play on the play ground or take a paddle boat out and enjoy a nice warm day. It’s a town where I hope to move back to so that my children will some day be able to grow up with the same feeling I did when I lived there. There is ‘Warhorse’ School Pride everywhere you look. Folks are proud to call Charles D. Owen High School “their school”. Makes me appreciate the little things in life when I go home. And I’m proud to say “I love this place” every time I enter into the city limits of Black Mountain, NC

Historic New Carlisle, Indiana! There are so many terrific things about our town that I could write a book about it! It’s the small town we all leave after high school but always return to when we are ready to settle in. It’s your one cop, one stop light town. When I moved here 17 years ago, I went to the town utility office to establish service. I then asked for directions to the post office and the clerk all but laughed and said “walk down this hallway…” She said everything was within a 3 block radius and it was a hassle to drive since you’d have to keep returning to the same public parking lot. You can’t go anywhere in town without running in to someone you know. One claim to fame is the movie Prancer. Filmed right here in New Carlisle at the Old Republic. But my favorite town activity is the lighted Christmas parade every year. Tell me where else can you go on the Sunday evening after Thanksgiving, rain, sleet or snow, and watch Santa roll into town on the back of a fire truck? All the town folk then follow him to the fire station for free hot chocolate and cookies and don’t think twice because they aren’t pre-packaged.
My favorite small town is Mountain Home, AR. I love being able to spend the summers on the lake, and the small town life of knowing everyone is great. There is always someone to hitthe water with or have a good old fashion summer barbaque with
papillion, NE
best small town in the country…..wouldn’t trade one single day!!!!
