Martina McBride Says “It’s Not All About the Music”

Great Performances: Martina McBride

Martina McBride admits an old adage about making it in the music biz is wrong.

She tells the Kansas City Star that “people say its all about the music. That’s not true. A lot of good music never gets heard. A lot of bad stuff becomes successful.” She says “you just never know.”

Martina also says “all you can do is do your best to make the music you love and put it out there.” She adds that “after that, a million variables can affect whether its a success or not.”

Martina also told the newspaper that although she really enjoys Twitter, she is not sure how necessary it really is.

“I am on Twitter, and I enjoy it,” she said. “I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes. For me, it’s another way to reach fans and show maybe more of a personal side. We’re on Facebook and Myspace, but to be honest with you, I don’t know much about those.

“I do my own Twitter, and it’s fun. But I don’t know how necessary it is. I know some artists who don’t do any (social networking), and they’re still very successful. But it adds another dimension.”

I always enjoy Martina’s tweets. It makes me feel connected to her and other artists like her that take the time to tweet for their fans. And I hate to say it but she is write. Some great music never gets heard and not so great becomes successful. It’s kind of sad when you think about it.

And that is the sad, sad truth about country radio these days!!

Sadly, she’s right. It seems like arists are making their worst album and single choices earlier and earlier in their careers. I remember reading a quote from a songwriter who said it’s not often that a “Bless The Broken Road” or “Whiskey Lulabye” falls through the cracks to get recorded.
