Charlie Daniels had his first round of physical therapy yesterday. He had a stroke on Friday while he and friends were riding snowmobiles near Durango, Colorado. In the blog on his Web site, Charlie gives a stirring moment-by-moment account of what happened when he felt the stroke come on, until he came home from the hospital two days later.

Charlie says his left hand was getting numb, along with the left side of his mouth. Then, his left foot started getting hard to control. That’s when the race began to get off the mountain and to the hospital. He made it just under the 3-hour window for treatment that can mean the difference between permanent injury or even death, versus possible recovery. He also had taken some aspirin before he got there.

Now, Charlie has started physical therapy for stiffness and numbness in his left hand and arm. He ends his blog with “Looking forward to another great touring year.”
