“Country isn’t country like it used to be.” How true is that? Kyle Park, a rising artist in the Lone Star State, knows this very well. His transformation of the genre from classic to modern country is the reason this Texas boy is drawing attention to himself. “We still play it off like it’s country,” KP admits with a smirk. Whatever you want to call it, it’s fresh and noticeable. Rock with a twang, country without the steel guitar and fiddle—it’s a mix of all that is good in the world of music today.
Kyle’s most recent album Anywhere in Texas is a collection of 12 songs that captures a wondrous variety of elements. Not only do the sounds differ, the lyrics and messages in the songs do as well. Each of the songs is also co-written by KP. From a touching, heartfelt love song in “Living Room Loving” to a windows-rolled-down, radio-turned-up kind of song to jam to in “First Day of Summer,” Kyle has at least one song for everybody. Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley—there is quite a resemblance in the feel of KP’s tunes to these superstars. And, his voice is just as distinct. His talent is undeniable; writing and singing songs for and about everyday people only adds to his impressive résumé.
Kyle Park is a force to be reckoned with. Upbeat, passionate, melodic, catchy, unique—KP knows how to turn heads. This artistic rising star also makes sure to remember his roots. Anywhere in Texas was chosen as the album title after embarking on a weeklong European concert tour two years back. “I don’t need to go home, but anywhere in Texas will be fine,” is how KP lyrically described his experience overseas. “Just get me back to what I know, which is Texas and all the fans in Texas,” was KP’s thought process during the trip. Even on a different continent, Kyle Park thinks about his loyal followers.
Once, KP was hitching rides with his cousin to perform before he could drive. Now, Kyle is traveling the country, playing his guitar to lively crowds, and working his way up the ranks to stardom. What is Kyle’s advice to fellow dream chasers? “Follow what you think you should be doing.”
