Dixie Chicks Lawsuit Dropped

Natalie Maines and The Dixie Chicks just got some good news about something that had been posted to the band’s Web site and about something she said. The band cannot be sued for libel by the stepfather of one of three 8-year-old boys killed in Arkansas 15 years ago. That’s because Maines based her statements on legal documents she thought were true. That’s the ruling of a federal judge.

The Dixie Chicks had been sued by Terry Hobbs, whose stepson Stevie Branch, was one of three 8-year-old boys murdered in 1993. Hobbs said Maines accused him of the killings. That was in a letter posted on the band’s Web site and in comments she made at a Little Rock rally in 2007 in support of the three men convicted in the deaths.
