Our good friend Kim went on a Gary Allanroad trip a couple of weeks ago. She was also one of the lucky few to have a meet n’greet with Gary (she’s been waiting forever).
We traveled from South Carolina to Georgia, back through South Carolina to North Carolina to see Gary Allan play two nights in a row Nov. 13 and 14th! It was so well worth the miles and sleep deprivation! The only thing that was missing was making the Ryman show the night before in Nashville – oh well, a girl can’t have everything all the time!

First up, The Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia. I have to say what an awesome venue! So much history and the acoustics were incredible! Gary rocked the crowd playing song after song as the crowd sang along. I found out after the show that Gary was under the weather but one would haver never known as he was “on” as always! A new addition has been added to his final song – his dog Lucy comes out on stage during Drinkin Dark Whiskey -very entertaining for the crowd and the band as well! Gary always leaves me wanting another show right away and lucky me! …I was off to Charlotte, North Carolina for another show the next night!
The Fillmore in Charlotte is a new venue, just opened Summer 2009. Another awesome place with great acoustics! Before the show was my meet and greet with GARY!!!! I was totally stoked to say the least! What an awesome way to get to meet your favorite performer – small and intimate. Not a lot of people in the room. A few of the band members attended along with Lucy, his dog. (She is ADORABLE!) Gary came in and spoke to everyone, chatted and hung out for a bit. He is just a super nice guy! I have to give kudos to Gary for keeping his meet and greets the way they are – no 50+ people being cattle herded through like so many M&G’s are now. Makes it well worth the wait to get to finally meet him!

Gary and the guys rocked the house once again to a packed house! He began the show with the title track from his upcoming cd to be released early 2010, Get Off On The Pain. The remainder of the set list was: She’s So California, Feeling Like That, Nothing On But The Radio, It Would Be You, Feeling Like That, Best I Ever Had, Life, Just Got Back From Hell, Right Where I need to Be, The One, Half Of My Mistakes, Today (his newly released single from the upcoming cd), Songs About Rain, As Long As You’re Looking Back, Alright Guy, Man Of Me, Watching Airplanes, and Like It’s a Bad Thing. He ended the show with his “favorite whiskey drinking song” Drinking Dark Whiskey – Lucy made her appearance on the stage once again!
It was an awesome weekend – two great shows! Gary never disappoints and I always have a great time listening to his music and singing along! Can’t wait to ring in the New Year in Vegas with another Gary show!
Thanks so much for the review Kim!!! Sounds like a great time, and I KNOW how cool it is to finally meet someone you’ve been waiting to meet for what seems like forever.
