Gibson Guitars in Nashville Searched

Guitar

The Tennessean is reporting that that agents from the US Fish and Wildlife Service searched the Gibson Guitar plant in Nashville today.  It is believed the agents were looking into a violation of the Lacey Act, which enforces the illegal importation of woods used by guitar makers, such as the endangered Brazilian and Madagascar rosewood.

“(The) Gibson Guitar chairman and CEO sits on the board of the Rainforest Alliance and takes the issue of certification very seriously,” the company said. “The company will continue to cooperate fully and assist our federal government with all inquiries and information.”

Gibson guitars are a prominant feature in Nashville.
