Comments that Wynonna made about Taylor Swift winning Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards last night have been spreading like wildfire around the internet.
You want my honest comment? It’s too much too soon,” the singer told USA Today before the show. “Time is God’s way of keeping everything from happening at once. It’s just too much of a good thing too soon. My thing is, being a home-school mom, I want kids to earn it, and I think some time … ’cause mom and I rode in a car for the first year of our career to visit radio stations. There was a making of the star, there was a rising up, and the fans went with us.
Well, it seems Wynonna is sorta retracting her statement….sorta…She posted on Wynonna.com today…
I understand that my comment about Taylor Swift’s Entertainer of the Year nomination came across as a negative statement. My intent was not to take anything away from her talent and contributions to the country music industry…all of which are truly unprecedented for an artist of ANY age. Taylor is a beautiful, hard working young woman that deserves the success she has had and I support her as an artist and as a woman in the business.
I think people forget that Taylor has been recording for three years and writing since she was 14…She’s hardly an overnight success…

I am not by any means a Taylor “fan,” but Wynonna should get her facts straight before saying she didn’t pay her dues. She, too, travelled the country by car visiting radio stations for over a year. She even stopped at a random custard shop here in Fresno, CA and did an impromptu performance after visiting some radio stations. That was kind of an unfair comment for Wy to make.
I agree with Wynonna! ETOY is something some artists work towards their entire careers yet few get! I feel like the CMA’s gave it to her for bringing “young people” back to country but I hate to burst their bubbles but Taylor isn’t country, she’s pop so thats where the money is going!
Too young, what does she have to work for now, Wy’s right, and the bottom line is just about the money she brings in from the way the voting is made up….truly deserving people were passed by because of the all mighty BUCK!!!
What I dont understand is it clearly says in the article her comments were made BEFORE the show. So did she know Taylor was going to win? Was the comment made in regards to her success in general or her success in winning the EOTY award. Either way I dont see why Wynona felt the need to clear the air, she was right. Not sure of the criteria used to determine who wins, but all the other nominees are for more entertaining that she is IMO.
You guys do realize it’s Entertainer of the YEAR right? It’s not a lifetime acheievement award…it’s for the year’s achievements, and let’s face it…Taylor’s had a helluva year. I do wish Keith would win…but oh well…I think any of them coulda won and it woulda been justified.
yeah she’s been righting since she was 14, and been in nashville 3 years. nothing compared to the people who have been there 10 and worked SO much harder than her! and female vocalist?!?! she can’t sing at all compared to carrie!

In my opnion Wynonna didnt slam Taylor or say anything that was mean or hateful. She never once down graded her in anyway. Just stating the facts that it has been fast for her. Wy has never had anything bad to say about anyone. She knows how the business works and how hard you do have to work to get anywhere. Wy you are an icon! Keep up the good work! Love you Wynonna!!!
Yes, it’s entertainer of the year, but every other person in that category besides george straight should have won it over her. All of them except for Brad and George had higher grossing tours than her. They are all TRUE country music artists. A lot of Taylor’s success was because she hit it big with the cross-over audience. 2 of her singles were #1 on pop radio…how is she getting COUNTRY music entertainer of the year? Theresa is right…she won because of $ $ $. And female vocalist? Over the other four..who can actually sing? Based off her performaces on the show, the whole sommet center should have been laughing when she won that one! Don’t get me wrong, I love Taylor. Know all of her songs and I think she’s a great role model, but the CMA awards were a joke.
