Rascal Flatts Rein as Top Group in Country Music

Rascal Flatts continue their reign as the biggest group in country music. According to Nielsen Soundscan the band’s latest CD, Unstoppable, is one of only three country albums that have scanned platinum in 2009, including Taylor Swift’s Fearless and Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack, with year-to-date sales of over 1 million albums sold on each title.

Of all country titles released this year, Rascal Flatts’s Unstoppable holds the record for the biggest first week sales with 351,000 units sold. Unstoppable also has the fifth highest debut sales numbers across all genres for all new CD releases this year. Included in the first week numbers are more than 58,000 digital albums, giving Rascal Flatts the biggest first week digital album sales for any country title released this year.

With 126,000 tracks sold the first week of release, the project’s lead #1 single “Here Comes Goodbye,” also holds the record for the biggest first week sales for any country digital single in the history of Nielsen Soundscan.

Rascal Flatts always say they have the best fans and I think this proves it!

Tawny, you can keep saying they “don’t suck” but Rascal Flatts are so way beyond not sucking it’s not even funny.  I understand you might not like the music but I am glad that so many other fans have a great appreciation for the music they make.  It’s keeping my boys on top!

I just read a not so great review of their show in Saddledom, Calgary! She wrote: “the 10,000-strong crowd also stood strong despite nearly being washed away by wave after wave of sonic liquid cheese.
The addition of a five-piece backing band, didn’t do much to breathe life into their predictable songs. They may be the best selling country group of the past decade, but RFs have more in common with adult contemporary pop music than the rootsy soul of country stars past. While LeVox’s nasally, high pitched drawl is well suited for RFs pop-country, it didn’t sound so hot bludgeoning the Beatle’s classic, Revolution, during the encore. RFs may sell more records than Keith Urban, but for me, Urban is the one artist who can blend country, rock and pop together without it sounding too contrived or calculated.”

Lioness, WHY do you feel the need to repeat this just to bring Keith up? It’s so rude, and I’m sure Keith wouldn’t want his name attached to such things. Gary, Jay, and Joe Don are NOT cheesy; they are great guys, and their wonderful music means a hell of a lot more to their fans than some biased reviewer who isn’t talented or versatile enough to come up with something other than an immature biased jab. Sad.

didn’t Lady Antebellum go platinum in 2009?
even though their album came out in 2008, so did taylor swift’s.
also i thought Darius Rucker also went platinum.

Rascal Flatts goes all out for their fans and we for them. They give us music that really means something and some have helped people get through difficult times in their lives. They have helped me with passing of a family member and reminding me that you should show how much you love your loved ones. They are important to us. I hope they continue to make beatiful music and fun music for years to come.
