New Music Weekend – Lantana

These three Texas ladies are currently tearing up the Lone Star State of Texas with their energetic songs and performances. They are all from Dallas Texas and just decided to get together and sing – something they do well. They’ve played venues including the Houston Astrodome, Louisiana Superdome, Texas Stadium, Texas State Fair and Nashville’s Wildhorse Saloon. They have released two singles which hit in the top 10 on the Texas Music Chart twice, something that has only been done by one female trio before them – that trio being the Dixie Chicks.

This trio has a unique blend of voices and a really interesting harmony. They are a blend of Southern Rock and Texan Country. They have one song “Texas” which is bouncy, bright and gritty all wrapped into one song. It’s a song about a man – of course it is! A Texan man! They sing that they have seen all the wonders of Texas but the most impressive thing they have seen is “Baby you’re the best thing in Texas I’ve ever seen” – hmm, must be singing about a Texas Cowboy….rodeo cowboy I’m thinking with the Stetson hat and blue jeans. Yep – a natural wonder is what I’m looking at I think!! And is that a fiddle I’m hearing? Oh yeah – thinking so!

“Savin’ It Up for Saturday Night” is a honky tonk song talking about saving pennies up for a Saturday night gone dancing! There’s fast beat with fiddles (again – yeah!) and honky tonk piano and a melody that just makes you want to move – toe tapping, dancing in your chair or on the floor – doesn’t matter – the song is just a lot of fun!!

“I Got What You Need” is a bluesy ballad singing of hearts on the line and love being the hardest thing in this world. Their harmony is supremely showcased in this tune and the lyrics are grass-roots about love and being there to help someone through anything. It’s a soothing ballad about love and life.

They are gearing up for another album – one that might just get farther than Texas and you might want to see these ladies in person and grab the new CD when they get ready to release it! I don’t think you’ll go wrong on this trio!
