WOW! AMAZING! FANTASTIC! Those are all words that can only start to describe the We’re All for the Hall concert that was held in Nashville last night. Not only was raising money for the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame on every one’s minds but also great down home country music.
Keith Urban started the night out witha BANG! “Hit the Ground Running” was definitely the song to set the tone for the evening. Keithand the guys rocked through a mini-set of his hits including “Better Life”, “Tonight I Wanna Cry”, “Kiss A Girl”, “Sweet Thing”, and “Til Summer Comes Around.” Then, Keith took to a stool to sing an acoustic off-the-cuff version of “Coat of Many Colors;” saying it’s the song that made him fall in love withcountry music. Again…If you haven’t seen Keithin concert…run, don’t walk. The man makes playing a guitar look like a very sensual and intimate experience; involving his entire body and taking you on a ride you won’t soon forget. As a very special treat, Keith was joined by fellow guitar-picker extraordinaire Brad Paisley for an impromptu version of “Start A Band.” The two were obviously having a good time, and even ventured out into the lower level to jam with the crowd. A crowd surfing expert, Keith made it through the crowd, getting mauled all the way. Brad, on the other hand, needed slightly more time, and seemed a tad unsure about being in the center of the pack.
After Keith got the crowd worked-up; he stepped aside; introducing predator jersey wearing Vince Gill. Vince is a professional guitar slinger in his own right, but also can make your knees weak; and he did last night when he sang “Whenever You Come Around.” Vince dedicated the love song to his wife, Amy Grant. Saying he hadn’t seen his “Amy Grant in 2 1/2 weeks…. I love you baby.” Then he said he hoped he would get ‘lucky’ later.
Vince and Keith then joined ‘the band’ as we ventured out into the ‘boondocks’ with Little Big Town, got ‘Sideways’ with Dierks Bentley, took a Ride on Jason Aldean’s “Big Green Tractor” while Lady Antebellum explained how they “Need You Now” and Faith Hill begged to “Let Me Let Go,” and then finally lived out our favorite “Love Story” with Taylor Swift.
The crowd got the very best from each performer. Jason Aldean rocked the crowd full of ‘Country Girls’, and Dierks released his inner ‘caged bird’ running around the stage. Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum’s harmonies were spot on. Even though we haven’t heard Faith Hill belt out a tune in a while, the lady’s still got it.
The night ended about 4 hours after it began with more stars on stage than ever before. Singing a group effort rendition of “Lay Down Sally”, the night ended on a memorable note…I’m sure for the performers as well as the audience.
The proceeds of the sold-out show will be donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame which hopes to expand, doubling it’s size in the upcoming years.
If you missed the show, circle October 5th, 2010 on your calendar cuz the whole thing is gonna happen all over again.
