Luke Bryan at the Middle Tennessee District Fair

Surrounded by the ever-so-pungent aroma of farm animals, fans flocked to Lawrenceburg to see Luke Bryan perform at the Middle Tennessee District Fair.  As always, our favorite country man rocked the eclectic crowd.  The set list was slightly different than I’m used to, with more covers and hymns sifted into the usual set.

Peggy Sue and I kicked-off the night with a meet n’greet.  Thanks to The Nuthouse (Luke’s Fanclub), I won a last minute pair of meet n’greet and show tickets.  We arrived promptly, and in true meet n’greet fashion; had to weave through a few back n’forths to finally get to where we were ‘supposed’ to be.  The M&G would take place outside in a very dark area under a tree…but I was fine with it.  Luke emerged from his bus looking…well…stunning!! I know, strange word to describe Luke Bryan, but he was dressed in head to toe black.  Looking amazing tall and lean, Luke greeted everyone with a smile; posing for pictures and signing anything you flopped in front of him.

This was probably the best M&G ever! After autographs and pictures, we told Luke we LOVED his new record.  He remembered me from the Bluebird and the Tin Roof.  I told him I was so happy “Favorite Flowers” made the bonus material.  He grinned from ear to ear and said “Thanks baby” in his deep Georgia drawl.  He asked again if I really did like the album, and of course I said I really really did.  He actually looked sheepish and proud all at the same time.  It’s obvious that he is very proud of Doin My Thing, as he should be.

The concert started around 7:45 and Luke sang many of the ‘usuals’; “Country Man”, “Doin My Thing”, “We Rode in Trucks,” “Rain is a Good Thing,” “Do I”, “Welcome to the Farm”,”I Did it Again”,”Baby’s On The Way”, “Good Directions,”  ”Calling You Baby,” “You Make Me Want To”, and “All My Friends Say.” Other songs he threw in for good measure, and I’m sure the cater to the crowd who I can only assume were vastly unfamiliar with Luke Bryan (you could get a general admission concert ticket for only $5 with your fair admission, so I think everyone and their brother took advantage)…Anyway, Luke also sang “Fishin in the Dark”, “Play Something Country”, “Hillbilly Deluxe”, “Mountain Music,” and “I’ll Fly Away.”

Noticeably absent from the setlist were “Apologize” and “Drunk Ass Home.”

Overall, it was a great great night! We aren’t used a Luke Bryan concert ending before 9:30, and we’re not used to so many people sitting…But Peggy Sue and I made the most of it, singing and dancing until the very end.
