Since competing in American Idol in 2006, Bucky Covington hasn’t made the jaunt home. Over the weekend, 6,000 Bucky fans filled the square in Rockingham, NC to hear their hometown star. The 90 minute set included his singles “A Different World” and “It’s Good to be Us,” but Bucky also previewed some new music off his forth-coming album, I’m Alright.
“I was probably more nervous about playing back home in Rockingham than any other stage across the country,” admits Bucky. “This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time as a thank you to everyone in Rockingham who were so great to support me and my music from the very beginning on American Idol all the way through today.”
The concert wasn’t just for the fun of it. Bucky had ulterior motives. He hoped to raise awareness for the area’s program BackPack Pals. The program gives food to children in need to nourish them through the weekend. Bucky even stopped by to help stuff backpacks for the children.
Rockingham was so grateful for Bucky taking time out of his busy schedule that they named September 26th Bucky Covington Day, presenting the singer with a key to the city.
