Colt Ford “Ride Through the Country”

Colt Ford is quite the character! His album “Ride Through the Country” is unlike anything that I normally listen to. It’s country with a little ghetto edge to it. As Colt says on the first track of the album which is also titled “Ride Through the Country” featuring John Michael Montgomery, “most country folks sing, but I couldn’t, so I’m rappin”. Colt continues to tell you about himself and where he’s from throughout the song and the entire album. Despite his mad rappin’ skills, he says “I’m still that same‘ol country boy, and that’s all I’ll ever be, and sometimes, those bright lights blind me, and make it hard for me to see, but when I need to be reminded, I take a ride through the country”.

You might find an empty can of beer, when you roll up to Colt’s single wide in your four wheel drive, but other than that he claims that there’s “No Trash In My Trailer”…. well… since the day he threw you out of there! This song is one of my favorites on the album. I like a good sense of humor, and this song (as well as most of the others) is where you’ll find some! When listening to this particular song and how he describes what he has out in his yard, I just couldn’t help to think of Larry the Cable Guy.

This album isn’t completely about hangin’ out with friends, having drinks, and getting into bar fights. There’s a more serious side of Colt in the song “Never Thought” featuring Lindsey Hager. This piece has some emotion tied into it. He’s torn between love and what he needs to live, and tends to end up losing everything he loves. As the couple reminisces on what use to be and how it’s changed from good to gone, she doesn’t care if he ever comes back home.

I passed Jamey Johnson and Colt Ford their “Cold Beer”, so it’s time for me to start heading out. I’ve enjoyed getting to know Colt and taking a “Ride Through the Country” with him, and I’m sure you will too. So, go ahead…. pick up your copy of the album… Oh, oh, oh…and don’t forget to grab two shot glasses and a bottle of tequila while you kick back with “Mr. Goodtime”!

  2. Valerie Hoefert says:

My life is a mess and you can probably guess. I lost two people who were close to me.

One was my father the other my best friend both died within 2 weeks.

I do not understand why they could not stay I really thought God had blessed my days.

I sat and ask why he replied they were ready my child so just give it awhile.

You will see brighter days, your pain will go away, and then you will begin to smile.

I feel empty inside and all I want to do is cry,. I often ask why could it have not been me?

God said you are there to help the others in need your strength and love is all they need.

My life is pretty great. I love and I hate. Every year the hubby and I wait for huntin’ season to start. During that time you can’t tear us apart. We can’t wait to let the arrows fly and bring home the prize. All those deer and turkeys meeting their demise. People call us Rednecks like it’s a bad thing. We just reply to them by putting Colt Ford on the Ipod and sing! We are proud to be Rednecks from the South. If people don’t like it they can just shut their mouth.

  8. Caitlin Stites says:

I’m just a girl from a small town city

    Only 13 not knowing anything
Now I’m stuck out where only corn grows
    Down in Alabama
Where its flip-flops, overalls and steal toes

Trying to find the way of life
Dirt Roads, rock climbing, mud ridden and huntin
Not knowin what I was getting into or where Id end up

Try to fit in doesn’t always work
Now everyone thinks you’re a big ole jerk
    Get up go to school
Do what you got to do
To keep on surviving in this country life
Sometimes still wondering even why go on trying.

3 years later still hangin by a thread
Now its all about the driven
Who knew it would come to me
Getting out there and getting dirty

Now im 21 time to party
Finally getting the need to knows of a country life
So not all about the dress or who your with
Although these red neck boys are pretty cool

7 years went by thought Id never make it
But finally im living the country life
Of dirt roads, mud ridden, rock climbin, and even huntin,

If it has legs, I can ride it. If it has parts, I can make it. If it has wheels I can drive it. But if it’s gotta heart, i’m gonna break it.

Hey, I’m Tammy! I did not like country music, til my 13 yr. old came home and was listening to Colt’s music. I’m like dang I like that!! Yes, I like rap but after what I heard from Colt’s music I was hooked. As I see it a lot of people are trashing Colt for his rapping music. Saying that he is racist. As I see it these people are jealous! They don’t want you to come in and be better than that Lil’ Wayne. I told my 13 yr. old that I would much rather him listen to Colt, the music is soooooo much cleaner and makes sense. My son got to see Colt in Asheville, NC and said the show was awesome. He wore his Colt Ford t-shirt to school on the first day. So I say go for it Colt!!! I hope you go to the top! When are you coming back to North Carolina??? ;)

I was introduced to Colt for about 5 months or so ago by my older brother. At 17 im hooked on Colt Fords music. My favorite songs are Mud Diggers because i am a FEMALE MUD DIGGERS sorry boys we do it just as good and then its Ride the the country because there aint nothing like a nice ride by your self down an old dirt road listening to the best of counrty then there is Dirt Road Anthem because i myself lived on an old dirt road up until about a couple years ago. 22. MSgal4Otto says:

Mr. Goodtime! Except I’m a Mrs. Goodtime! Love it and cannot wait to see Colt do his thang on October 10 in D’Iberville, MS.

  23. Casey Spreckelmeier says:

I got turned onto Colt’s music a little over a year ago when a buddy of mine brought a bootleg downloaded CD with him one night when we were taking one of our “country cruises”. I immediately liked it. The song that stuck out to me was Ride Through the Country. I grew up a country kid in Ohio. As I got older my heart got swayed from the country life. Then four years ago I moved to North Carolina with my family in an attempt to find my roots. The reason that song means so much to me is because it’s kinda like my life. Taking these rides through the country with good people by my side reminds me of the fact that I’m country through and through. Thank you Colt Ford!

  24. Casey Spreckelmeier says:

Beers and big trucks and the music loud,
Are all that I need in this country crowd.
Mud, blood and bulls are this cowboy knows,
living my life at the rodeos.
My heart got pulled away but I’m back again,
Raising pure hell with all my rowdy friends.
So if a damn good time’s what you want to see,
Then hop up in the truck and take a ride with me.

  25. christina says:

  28. KUNTRY GYRL/ Amy Johnson says:

I’m gonna be real honest and let ya’ll know that I wasn’t raised out in the country. Very deprived from the real meaning of life. Now that I’m out on muh own and pay’n muh own bills…. I choose to git muh butt out there where the black top ends. I see where this songs emplies all of who I am now rather than who I was when growing up. Simple and very ready fer a good time with muh T.O.U.G.H. MUDDERS and kuntry folk friends. IT don’t git no better than that!!! FAMILY & FRIENDS, Ready to go git a Tail Gate PARTY and make’n sure we got our two shot glasses and a bottle of tequila cuz we got pleanty of our Mr. GOODTIMES around fer us gyrls!!! Shoot, when the mood hits…. we turn into them there MUD DIGGERS and git ready to Saddle UP too!!! All I know is that I don’t plan on have’n any reasons fer have’n anyone Meet Me at the Waffle House. Hell, befer it starts gittin that bad… I’ll have ‘em Meet Out Back When I’m Done so We can Fight. Soon as the weather turns…I go to Huntin the World and take’n home some deer. Try’n to save the money to go and bring home some Elk and a nice CAMO Truck!!!

  30. Susan Vaughn says:

    It Gets Hot In Alabama

When I’m gettin’ on your nerves in the kitchen

And nothing I say or do is right

Think long and hard ’bout what you mention

Cause I’m the one you lay with every night

We both Know it gets hot in Alabama

and that boss man you’re workin for’s a fool

It aint my fault there’s no shade down at the sod farm

And no breeze blowin’ ’round to make you cool

When I forgot the ice you know I had no malice

I didn’t do it just to make you mad

I got a cell phone call from a girl friend down in Dallas

And I drove by the store just like that

We both know it gets hot in Alabama

And I know you come home so tired

    Dont stand there in disgrace

Just come’er and kiss my face

Take me upstairs and love me real hard

Now it was you who said you wanted to be a daddy

Now I’m standin’ in my nightgown lookin’ fat

And you say you want to unwind down at Bubba’s all the time

With George, Jim, Old Grand Dad and Jack

We both know it gets hot in Alabama

Hey no one knows that better than me

So sit down in that chair ’cause you aint going no where

Just sit back down and enjoy my company.

I said sit back down and enjoy my company

Cause in a few more months we’ll be sittin’ here as three.

Hey Ya’ll I Really dig ol’Colt Ford. If he wasn’t married I’d ask him to be my babydaddy. We’d have us a kid that’d be a musical redneck Mozart. My 16 year old daughter thinks he’s a real hottie cause she’s got a fat man fetish. Kid actually asked me to try to hook up with the ol’boy so she’d get a better grade in gym class. Dont ask me how those two things go together. I warped her mind early on. Had a few too many buwisers when I was breast feeding. Anyway why dont you throw in some tix to see the fella in GA or Alabama some time. The pize pak is pretty lame. But I want it anyway, koozie and all.

  31. Stephany Foster martin says:

Hi I am Stephany and here is my rap:

Im from the country, just a girl of 33
Most the time chiling, my family and me
But sometimes at night, when the kids are in bed
My foot gets to stompin and i get a song in my head

And out comes a rhyme, clear as a bell
Never had anyone I thought I could tell
I just sit and rap about my life
and being a mama and a damn good wife

And I feel like the pressure of the day
Seems to leave me, as I say:

I’m from the country , and hell yeah I’m big
and if you gotta bottle, I’ll take a swig
I cuss like a sailor, so what I’m grown
And I ‘ll be this way to the day that I’m gone

proud of who I am and from where I come
Some call me trashy, redneck or dumb
But I know what’s important, so I dont care
Got a message for the preppys, over there

    Chorus:

Yeah, so what, I talk funny
Who cares, I aint got loads of moneys
I dont look like you, but who wants to
Not skinny as a post , Hell I’m bigger then most
And I weight about as twice, as you do
Hell yeah, I am real loud
But guess what, I am also proud
So turn around and walk away in a whirl
CAUSE I’m A BIG ASS COUNTRY GIRL

  32. Well i’m a country girl, that’s what i’ll always be

I was raised in the woods in Monticello Kentucky

Well i love to go climbin in my daddy’s Chevrolete

pickin ginseng and mushrooms it’s the hillbilly way

We never had no money and my daddy worked outta town

lived out in the middle of nowhere and nobody was around

My momma didn’t drive and she didn’t have a car

so we just stayed at home, we never went too far

She was only thirteen when she married my dad

guess she thought it was better than the life she had

my family are the Burkharts and the feudin McCoys

they raise some beautiful girls and some bad ass boys

We love to pick guitars and sing an old song

and we crank it on up whenever Colt comes on

  33. Kim Waters says:

Is it too late to enter? I see a winner hasn’t been picked yet. If it is, that’s okay! Thanks anyway! Here’s my little rap:

Round here we like to hunt and fish,
Eat our southern food off a paper dish,
    Honky tonkin’ and mud ridin’,
    We ain’t always law obidin’,
    I work real hard,
    Got tattoos and scars,
    Tuning up and racing cars,
I guess I’m just a smalltown redneck star

Colt, you rock! My fiancee and I got introduced to your music about a year ago and we have been hooked ever since. Can’t wait to hear more from you!

  34. Erica G says:

I saw that Trailer video several years ago and I loved it. I’m glad you decided to come out with this new one. I heard it, and I knew it was you, and I love it that JMM is on the tracks with you on Ride Through the Country!!

  35. Nikki Ashford says:
