Okay, so one would assume that ultra popular, larger than life, Taylor Swift would not be bored on a Saturday night….Well, it appears that playing a two-hour show in North Carolina didn’t quite satisfy her “something to do” for the evening. So, Taylor took to her Myspace blog to share her feelings on boredom, the crowd, and NEW MUSIC coming your way.
But tonight I feel a little left out because two thirds of the artists on this tour are from North Carolina. Yep. Kellie Pickler: from North Carolina. Gloriana: From North Carolina. Me: Not from North Carolina. Man.. Now they’re all out having fun and celebrating their North Carolina-ness together. And I’m on the bus, having just watched a very compelling and educational History Channel special on The Dark Ages. I think I’m about to download a new one that’s about the Plague. So, as you can imagine, it’s wayyy more of a party in here than anything Kellie and Gloriana are doing
I like that the pouty little girl is sorta coming out here. I mean, every once in a while, that little girl comes out in me…For instance…last Monday when I was stuck at work while Country Girl was getting her picture taken with Keith Urban. Just sayin.
Since Tayor’s audience is younger than average, they are certainly more spirited in their abilities to ‘dress the part’ for their concerts. Taylor is loving the creativity.
my favorite one might possibly be the Thug Story costume, fully equipped with bling, bandana and DIAMONDS IN YO MOUF (a grill). I love looking out into the crowd. I see lots and lots and lots of dresses (which, I feel, make the world a better place) and lots of people that sing the words to my songs back to me, therefore making me feel like I’m not alone.
Taylor writes along about sending her back-up singer, Liz, a kitten-miss you card cuz Lis has been sick. But the real clanger comes at the end of Taylor’s blog.
One of the things at the top of my favorite things list is that I have new music coming out! What’s that you say? We just put out Fearless last year? I know! We’re not putting out a whole new album. We’re re-releasing Fearless with SIX new songs added. I’m so excited for you to hear this new music, see the new pictures, and watch the 50 million hours of bonus content. I love you a lot and I’ll see you on the road!
I know many of you aren’t all that thrilled that Taylor hasn’t shriveled up and disappeared…BUT, I am stoked that there will be different songs for my kids to be belting out.

Taylor has a natural talent as a writer, she is concise while being descriptive. She also has a very engaging style in both the prose we get to see on her blog as well as in her songs, and that along with her expressive and beautiful voice is the secret of her success as a singer/songwriter. I for one am looking forward to the Fearless re-release, I’ll be interested to see what songs she has added and what bonus video footage and other extras they are able to put in this compilation. I know that many country traditionalists have a hard time finding anything good about her, as well as many other modern artists that are accepted and played on country radio, and I understand their disenchantment.
I believe a great deal of that disenchantment with Taylor stems from the amount of talent she has been blessed with. With her natural beauty and extraordinary songwriting ability and her Elvis-like Charisma, she had the potential to bring a level of respect and excitement to Country that is practically limitless, and I think many of the traditionalist feel somewhat betrayed by her penchant of adding a more pop and mainstream sound to her music, which dilutes that country sound and history which most people for years associated with Nashville and Roots and Americana music.
Nevertheless, Taylor is true to herself and honest in her music as well as her songwriting, and since the music she creates is almost entirely hers, that is another reason for it’s success. She writes and sings who and what she is, and if she had to change that in order to portray established notions of what the Country genre is or should be, that would seperate her from her music and decrease or even eliminate that honesty which is the foundation of her life and music.
That’s one of the best posts I’ve read anywhere, Observer. You must be a writer. If not, you should be. I totally agree with your points. However, I don’t think she just has a natural talent as a writer. I have to agree with the New York Times, which said she is “one of pop’s finest songwriters”. She actually has hundreds of songs already written according to Rolling Stone. Taylor Swift is a staggering talent. She’s even making country music more palatable to me and millions of other total non country music fans. That is an incredible feat for anyone, let alone a 19 year old. And yes, her incredible success is also drawing jealousy and hatred.
Also Tawny, keep up the good work!
