Because a “rough, unfinished version” of Carrie Underwood’s upcoming single got leaked, her people have raced into action to replace it with the real thing. The hard-driving “Cowboy Casanova” wasn’t supposed to have arrived at country radio stations until next Tuesday. But, it got leaked.
Carrie wrote “Cowboy Casanova” along with Mike Elizondo and Brett James. James was a co-writer on “Jesus Take the Wheel.”
“Cowboy Casanova” is the first single off of Underwood’s upcoming CD, “Play On,” which will be released November 3.
Thanks to Broadway for finding Carrie Underwood’s newest song, “Cowboy Casanova.” What do y’all think???

I don’t know….. glad to hear that she’s kept the country sound but I think the song gets a little annoying with those fast bits that she’s singing.
I don’t know what to think either. If it didn’t have the steel guitar, it wouldn’t sound country at all. But I like Carrie, and I’m sure it will grow on me.
I like it right now, but country radio will make me hate it before it gets to #1.
I love it, but it sounds more like a pop song than a country song.
I agree, not sure how I feel about it. other than the mention of the cowboy and some of the instruments, it is not very country….but I guess a lot of new music isnt really that country now a days..
I really like this song. It is really catchy and will be easy to dance to. Carrie vocals are great in this song. It sounds country pop. Her peers introduced country pop to us before she was born. Elvis, jerry Lee Lewis, Conway Twitty, Roy Orbison and others. Country is not Tammy or Loretta (I love both) any more. It, like everything else, is constantly changing. I have to say that I am happy that Carrie is in country. She brought me over to country and now I like other artists. I think Toby Keith’s videos are funny. He and Alan Jackson are cool.
Pure Pop Puke. Yuck.
I love it! Another #1 in no time at all. Doesn’t sound traditional at all, but most of Carrie’s music doesn’t sound traditional.
I like the song. Carrie has a beautiful voice and has brought a lot of fans to country music. I get very tired of hearing the people say that some of the country artists do not sound like country. Compared to what? Say 50 years ago? 30 years? How about 20 years or 10 years ago? Listen to “county” songs in these time lines and you will see that all of them have changed over the years. The same thing happens to all types of music. Thank God we don’t put a freeze on our style of clothes, cars, homes, music, food etc. because we were afraid to evolve and change with the times.
I recall a very famous country artist was asked what kind of music he sang, his reply was “Garth Music”. Oh, that would not be country I guess.
I know I’m in the minority…but I just don’t care for it at all..oh well. To each their own.
I’m right there with ya Tawny
I liked the part before Carrie started singing.
Seriously, I don’t get why they put the Tammy Wynette sample in the front of this?
To demonstrate how much more genuine Tammy is than Carrie? To show how a real country singer can deliver emotion with every word as opposed to a mannequin with a microphone?
I don’t hate Carrie’s song, but it’s clearly the worst single she’s ever released. It’s not a bad country song; it’s not a country song at all. It’s mediocre pop/rock.
This is a horrible choice for her.
Pop? Hardly. I can see saying it’s more rock than country but the country’s definitely there. Moreso than on a lot of songs on country radio right now IMO.
I read on this very site that people were hoping for Carrie to do something different than her usual. Well in this song she does. Of course not everybody’s going to like it and that’s fine. But I do like this a lot. The lyrics are fun and the song is really catchy and it sounds different than anything else out there.
Tawny–are you related to Tanya Tucker? My Mom and Grandma loves her-and I gotta admit that I like some of her songs also-especially the ones that rock.
I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. But I know in the end, I’ll love it. I’ll hear it so many times, I just will cave and adore it.
Sami- Tawny Tucker is just my penn name…um…so no, I’m not related to Tanya Tucker…
I have to agree with Tawny & Jessica. I don’t like the song either.
Gee what a surprise Tawny, you don’t like what Carrie did. YOU NEVER DO. YOUR SITE SUCK AND SO DO YOU> BYE
Cntrylady- The great thing about this website and America is that NOBODY has to agree!!! We all dont’ have to like the same people…And, for the record, I think Carrie is a GREAT singer…I just don’t like the song…it seems forced or something. Didn’t care for it. I do have Carrie’s stuff on my mp3 player, so obviously there are things that I like…But I don’t like this song…For crying out loud.
Tawny–thanks for answering my post. I get a kick out of my Irish Grandmother when she calls Tanya “Sassy Lassie”. She is starting to call Carrie that now. She really likes her country music and has watched Opry forever. Matter of fact-I would still be listening to all pop and rock if not for her and Carrie. I followed Carrie to country from AI.
Geez. What’s with these angry Carrie Underwood fans? Just say you don’t like some of her stuff, and they’ll say the nastiest things. I personally think the song is pretty bad. No decent melody. The strong guitar seems to be trying to overcompensate. Here’s a review of Cowboy Casanova.

Dave I went to that site and Jim was not really being negative of Carrie. He praised her vocals but he did not like the song. He thinks she should sing more ‘COUNTRY” songs. Carrie’s peers were singing pop country before she was born. Ferlin Huskey , Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc.. My Mom has a masters in music and a minor in journalism and she went back and listened to Carrie’s live concert performances and listened to some of her singles and she said that Carrie has perfect pitch in both instances. She also told me to ignore the negative posts and that I should thank you and others for keeping Carrie’s name out there. It just makes her more popular. So–thanks!!!!!
Sami…nobody was being negative of Carrie…we were sayign we didn’t like the song…Everyone else gets up in arms for saying you don’t like something Carrie does…You can be a good singer and still have a bad song…
Tawny-I’m sorry if I offended you or anyone for that matter. I was not trying to be offensive–just pointing out that the columnist liked Carrie’s voice –just not the song. I don’t know of any artist that has not had a bad song or so. I really don’t get upset if some people doesn’t like Carrie’s song or any of her music. My Mom and Dad have taught me not to be hateful or vindictive. I do get upset when they say bad things about her personally-especially if they don’t know her. I think it is wrong to do this about any artist. I think Carrie is a very good role model for young girls like me. She has very good morals and a deep faith–and to me that is to be admired. I believe that fans should support their favorite artist and not run down other artists. It is wrong.
I think Carrie’s great. She has drawn so many people into country music. I like the song and look forward to the album.
I think this song could get more annoying to me even than Carrie’s version of “I Told You So.” She does have a strong voice, but she has no discretion in where she uses the power in her voice. Sometimes it seems singers like Carrie, Mariah, Christina Aguilera and some others believe that singing is all about how loud and how high and how intense you get with your voice. I may be in the minority also but I like a voice that’s expressive and connects on a personal level with the story and between a singer and their audience. It’s not always the strongest or the richest or the most famous that is the most worthy, it requires a complete package.
Hi Sami. I agree with your last post and respect you as a person. I totally agree that people should not be tearing down other artists. However, I do have noticed that alot of Carrie Underwood fans absolutely rip apart other artists and people who don’t like Carrie Underwood. I really think anonymous internet message boards are bad for civility. Anyone could post anything with no accountability. Some of them are an absolute war zone of hate.
Dave:I mean no disrespect to you, but I think your opinion of Carrie fans is both vicious and absured. Every fanbase has casual fans, in-between fans, and rabid fans; Carrie’s fanbase is no different. It is a fact that not all Carrie fans are rude, obssesive, nor disrespectful to fans of other artists. As example, have you ever come across Taylor Swift fans? Some of them are just as rude and disrespectful as Carrie fans. They tear down her music, personality, image, songwriting and anything else they can get their hands on. Speaking for myself as a huge Carrie fan, I find it disgusting that a select group of rabid, obssesive, eat-and-breathe Carrie fans have given her rationale followers such a smeared reputation.
Hi K. I agree with some of your points and I thank you for the post. However, never did I say Carrie’s fans are all like that. Such an opinion would be foolish. I did say however that alot of them are like that. Maybe that is also wrong. But here’s what I do know. I’m on the CMT boards often, and most of the hate against TS comes from CU fans. I assure you that’s not hyperbole or exaggeration. It’s absolutely true. There are several CU fans on CMT who consistently harass us on the TS boards using multiple identities and saying the most horrible things about TS. They seem to find it their duty to tear her down whenever a positive article comes up. I agree this stuff goes both ways as you say, but using CMT as an example, it seems happens so much more from CU fans than the other way around. Maybe you’re right about the rudeness of TS fans too. I’ll be more aware of that. I thank you and Sami for your posts, because I’m realizing maybe you CU fans aren’t so bad. I hope we can all just enjoy our favorite artists in civil discussion. I will be more careful with my words in the future.
(the above was by me)
I have checked a lot of the boards to see who is doing the most bashing. Very few of Carrie fans bash-but they do it often. Mlost of the bashing comes from Taylor fans, Kellie Pickler fans and a few more. I have to say that the bashing TS gets comes from other artist’s fans that do not like her vocals. It is unfair to put all the blame on CU’s fans. Ts and Kp’s fans bash CU constantly. Guess these fans have nothinbg else to do. Maybe now that they are in school they will have less time. Of the three female artists I really think Cu has the best vocals. I think quite a few of the articles written by columnists are biased against CU–and that does not help the matter at all. This is sad really because the girls are friends and support each other.
