OHHHHH,  I can feel myself getting all giddy inside.  It’s almost that time – awards show time!  Time for excitement, disappointments and great music performances!

The announcement of the final nominees for the 2009 CMA Awards will be carried live on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from the “Good Morning America” studios in the heart of New York City’s Times Square on the ABC Television Network.

“The 43rd Annual CMA Awards” will be broadcast live from the Sommet Center in Nashville Wednesday, Nov. 11 (8:00-11:00 PM ET/delayed PT) on ABC and is hosted for the second year by reigning CMA Male Vocalist of the Year Brad Paisley and reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Carrie Underwood.

The final nominees in select categories will be announced by Darius Rucker, who has quickly established himself as a fan and industry favorite with three No. 1 singles to his credit, and Lee Ann Womack, a former CMA Female Vocalist of the Year with 18 career CMA Awards nominations to her credit. The live announcements will take place during the 8:30 AM/ET half-hour of the morning news program.

  6. TawnyTucker says:

These are the people I THINK will win or be nominated…Not who I think should…so let’s not get your panties in a wad and start going off on Tawny for being a ‘hater’

EOTY Nominees: Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Taylor Swift (winner: TS) Male Vocalist: Darius Rucker, Brad Pasiley, Keith Urban, George Strait (Winner: DR) Female Vocalist: Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire (Winner: CU), Duo: Sugarland, Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry (Winner: Brooks and Dunn), Group: Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band (Rascal Flatts) Album of the Year: Fearless, Learn to Live, Unstoppable (Winner: Learn to Live)

Who do I want to take home the prizes: Keith Urban (duh, I think he’s underated and over due), Darius Rucker, Martina…the rest I could give a rats butt about.

  7. flutters says:

EOTY (an award for the best recorded & live music performances and ambassadorship):

Brad Paisley (who deserves to win – creative and innovative concert, great writer, great guitarist, great ambassador), Keith Urban (best live performer in country music), Kenny Chesney (showmanship can’t be denied), Carrie Underwood (great ambassador, great singer who brought a lot of attention back to Randy Travis, good live show, GREAT live awards show performances like JAD at the CMAs last year), Taylor Swift (I’m not a fan because IMO she can’t sing and her music is not country at all but IMO you can’t ignore the year she’s had)

The only reason I’m excluding Sugarland is the cancellations. It’ll probably end up being George in there instead of one of the ladies (probably Carrie because she hasn’t toured since last December). I know Flatts has done big numbers but I put them in the same category as Taylor and Taylor’s had the bigger year (not tourwise but in general) and her music gets better reviews.

MVOTY (for best live and recorded music performances by a male artist): Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, George Strait, Keith Urban

I know Chesney’s getting nominated but I’d rather they nominate better singers with better music. Toby Keith’s got a chance too. He’s got a great voice but IMO his music has been really weak.

FVOTY (for best live and recorded music performances by a female artist: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Lee Ann Womack (PLEASE!!!!!), Martina Mcbride, Reba McEntire

I know Taylor’ll get nominated but IMO her live performances and her voice range from average to downright bad. I know what a huge year she’s had but she’s just too weak vocally plus she’s remixed her songs for pop so she’s not promoting country music.

  8. Ashley says:

Rascal Flatts has to be nominated for EOTY! They’ve been robbed of winning the past couple of year and we’re even nominated last year which was a joke. They are way overdo for their EOTY win. Carrie has to be nominated for EOTY as since she won EOTY at the ACMs. She also has to be nominated for FVOTY. Rascal Flatts for VGOTY. Lady A needs to be nominated for VGOTY. Album of the year should include Fearless and Unstoppable. MVOTY should go to Keith Urban but I’m sure Brad will win it again.

  9. lioness says:

This is who I want to win:

EOTY – Keith Urban (way past due and the absolute best live performer there is), MV – Keith Urban (most beautiful voice and range) FV – Carrie Underwood (I just enjoy her singing) VG – Lady A ( enjoy what few songs they’ve done way more than any RFs song….sorry, just don’t enjoy the Flatt boys. Album….wish Defying Gravity would get a nom, but it will probably be Fearless. I know Taylor attracts a lot of young fans, but her music is just not enjoyable to me. I’m older and have already lived what she sings about. Her songs are just immature to me. I’ve seen her live and her show is more along the Disney/Hannah Montana theatrics. I’m sure she will walk away with a lot though.

  10. flutters says:

Just checking: the people who’re saying Keith’s overdue for EOTY – you know he won CMA EOTY in 2005 right? Believe me I’m not saying that means he shouldn’t win it again (read what I said about him in my other comment) – I’d much rather Keith win than Kenny. I just don’t understand the overdue statement since Keith’s won EOTY once before.

  11. Erin says:

    Rascal Flatts for EOTY !!

  12. TawnyTucker says:

Flutters, I think he’s over-due cuz his show, songwriting, musicianship has grown by leaps and bounce since then. His music has definitely reached new heights and changed since 2005 and I think he deserves another award….For the ACM’s last year, I felt like I knew what I was talking about having seen every single performer nominated for EOTY, and Keith by far had the best show….That being said, I think someone can be overlooked even after winning…However, if RF is nominated, I have nothing to compare it to…But, after this weekend, Country Girl will. She’ll have seen Keith for the first time.

  13. Country Girl says:

LONG OVER DUE and MUCH OVER LOOKED are Rascal Flatts. I am sure that I will enjoy the Keith Urban show this weekend but Tawny….please don’t expect me to think his shows are more entertaining than Rascal Flatts. Rascal Flatts put on an AMAZING show and as Ryan Seacrest once said, “It doesn’t get any better than Rascal Flatts.”

  14. flutters says:

“Flutters, I think he’s over-due cuz his show, songwriting, musicianship has grown by leaps and bounce since then. His music has definitely reached new heights and changed since 2005 and I think he deserves another award….”

I can respect that Tawny. I saw Keith for the first time last year and he BLEW. ME. AWAY. What I love about Keith is that he doesn’t need pyro and flash to make his show incredible. In the end it’s so much about Keith and the ache and emotions in his voice and how he’s connecting to the songs through his singing and playing. I truly believe live show-wise he is one of the best if not the best in ALL genres of music. I’ll be seeing him again in less than 2 months and I cannot WAIT.

IMO the marks against Keith are in remembering EOTY is about more than just the live show. It’s about the quality of recorded and live music and overall ambassadorship. Keith’s actually a pretty good ambassador for country (like when he represented at Fashion Rocks 2008 and the AI finale) but with his new album his music’s gotten a lot less country. But also this is JMO but his new album is kind of bland :( I hate saying that but I was so sad when he did that interview (New York TImes?) apologizing for LPATWCT when IMO it was a much better album than DG. I do love TTSCA and TY, and ST and KAG are catchy but IMO Keith can do so much better. I wish he could go deeper inside himself because you can see it in his concerts that when he goes there, it’s an amazing thing.

I respect RF’s numbers and how connected they are to their fans but IMO the quality of their music is a mark against them in the EOTY category too. I wish they’d step out of their formula and release better songs.

IMO Brad is the complete package as far as everything he brings to his music and concerts and he’s country music’s best male ambassador. He is country music’s preeminent chronicler of our time. That’s why IMO he’s the most overdue to win EOTY.

  15. Sami says:

Entertainer of the year-Chesney, Paisley, Urban, Flatts and maybe Carrie (I would say Taylor-but she does NOT represent country music-she is more into redoing her songs for pop). Female-Carrie, Taylor (NOT country-and does not have the vocals to be included with the other females) Mirands, Martina, Reba. Male-Brad, Keith, Kenny (maybe) George S, and maybe Jason Aldean. Album-George, Taylor, Carrie, Brad. Just a guess at all of these.

  16. Julia says:

For those saying that Carrie will be nominated for EOTY…I doubt it. She hasn’t been on tour since she won the ACM EOTY award, and didn’t appear at the CMT awards or CMAfestiival night stage. I think we can expect her to be nominated next year after she’s been on her rumored 145 city tour.

I want Brad to win MVOTY, Carrie to win FVOTY, Keith to win EOTY (YES, I think he is FAR more entertaining than Rascal Flatts, and yes, I’ve seen both in concert multiple times), and I’d love to see Carrie and Randy Travis to win collaboration of the year for the duet version of I told you so! I’m not sure who I think will actually win in these categories, I need a little time to decide. I know one thing…I can’t see the CMA giving Taylor Swift a win in EOTY or FVOTY, even if they nominate her. The CMA has more class than that haha…that’s why the Flatts have been “under-appreciated” at the CMAs year after year….CMAs are a lot more legit than ACMs and CMT awards. They will NOT let Swift take over the show like the CMTs did. Thank goodness!

  17. Dave says:

The CMA will have to give the EOTY to TS, or risk hurting their credibility

  18. Moe says:

EOTY: George Strait, Album (will give to TS); video, TS; Female Vocalist (anyone but TS); Male Vocalist (George Strait, if he doesn’t win EOTY).

Song, In Color, Single: Chicken Fried (although In Color should win); New Artist, Jamey Johnson. Duo: Brooks & Dunn; Group RF, but Lady A may beat them this year.
